Non-apple earphones with iPhone

Must i buy a belkin headphone adapter to use it with iphone, if its a non-apple earphone? What other choices do I have besides voda earphones? Is there any software application available as a iphone suitable base/environment to use with non-apple earphones?

Some standard earphone work as is (not many) some you can shave the plug down a little and they will work without an adapter. You need to search, this have been covered over and over............

i shaved down the end of my Shure's with a pocket knife works great.
tight fit, but that just means they wont come out!
you can follow the metal circle at the end of the jack all the way down thats the rght diameter.

Klipsch just came out with a whole new line that fits in the iPhone without an adaptor. Very nice.
