iPhone in the Car
I made this last weekend , and have been checking it out all week.
The iPhone mates nicely into the A4's system
It will play the iPod audio as a well as the iRadio station through my cars audio system.
The phone will ring through the audio input also.
I modified a standard iPod base to include a cable for audio out and power in.
This cable then would get soldered to the connector here in the base.
Sorry, I don't have a pic of that.
a
Other end of the cable goes to the audio-in of the adapter for the Audi Head Unit, and also to ignition-switched +12V.
The iPhone power connected at this point on the connector will take 8-30VDC.
Note the Head unit sez 'CD' when in fact, the adapter tricks the H/U into opening the audio-inputs.
Thats' how I get iPhone audio out and power in.
Yes, it charges the iPhone, and pauses the iPod stream when the ignition is turned off, restarts the iPod play when the ignition comes back on.

iPhone to original car cd player
I bought an adapter to connect my iPhone to the original CD player in a Peugeot 307 and it is working fine. The installation was not difficult, although you have to try and fail because the documentation is useless. The steering wheel controls are working to change tracks, and so does of course the volume. The adapter connects via the docking port at the bottom of the iPhone and also provides charging.
The product is called Connects2, and exist for different car and radio brands. The product web-site is www.connects2.com, but I bought it from www.ipodyourcar.dk. The product number is APGIPOD010, and the price 990 Danish kroner.
The adapter plug used to connect to the Peugeot RD3 cd player is not a full plugg, but it works just fine if you connect it as close to the center of the cd player as possible. To remove the radio, just use 4 small screwdrivers or any 5 cm objects that fit the holes in the front and then start jerking the unit outwards.

Great idea but to much
I have discoverd the simplest and cost effective way to use all of your iPhones audio abilitys threw ur car stereo, my iPhone is basically my radio ! But as well as my car phone and have u have it excellent for the Internet radio, I have my iPhone hooked up in my 300zx , it is hooked up to 3 screens and centered in the middlle , all u need is about 15$ and a radio with aux, then I went to radio shack and bought a 1/4 head phone jack female with a red and white aux open plug(3.68)the trick is since the iPhone is rounded u have to get a razor blade (1.00) and trim the down the rubber on the part that plugs in or it will not make the proper contact because of the rounded effect, then grab some red and white male aux plugs(3$-25$ up to u on quality) and run them to the aux on your car radio , and bam car phone with stereo great ring options music even dims out and plays the equiped ringtone threw ur speakers , in my case bammas ! If this helps u which I know it will let me know , remeber not threw the dock its cuts the phone ability , only threw headphone jack ! Enjoy !!

How do you get your iPhone into the docking station with the plastic cover on it ???
I struggle! I need to remove the cover in order to plug the iPhone into the docking station.

Great job. In my Chrysler 300, i have a flip out kenwood 7" toucjscreen w/ all the options imaginable. It has the iphone controll and hookup, so i can just touch the kenwood's screen to completely run my iphone.....calls and all. It charges it also. I love technology.

In the car, I have mine clipped to the sunvisor with an aux cable plugged into the headset jack, I ran the aux cable behind the windshield trim, down the side of the door jam, tucked under the dash to the aux in on my stereo. The phone is easily accessible and it mutes the music when a call comes in and plays the phone call through the speakers or speakerphone. All I had to buy was a male to male aux cable about 10 ft. long. Works great but probably wouldn't work so good in a convertible.

How do you learn to do that stuff? I guess I will learn when I start electrical engineering school?
