Default Pics of my iPhone, Alpine car stereo, Contour Showcase & Kensington car mount

Bought the Contour Showcase and the Kensington car mount and loving them. Highly recommended!

    Rotated to landscape:

Here's a wide shot to show the Alpine displaying "iPod" as source. Playing "Girl from Ipanema" by Astrud Gilberto.

OK...I've had the Alpine long before I decided to get the iPhone. But if you're in the market for a car stereo, get one that connects directly to the iPhone/iPod. The sound fidelity is better than if you transmit to FM. I also don't experience any interference so I don't have to turn Airplane on and miss calls.

Now if only I can afford that Mercedes...

Nice taste in music, bro!! Girl from Ipanema is one of my fave tunes.

I've been looking for a good car mounting option. Though I don't generally like rubber cases on my iPods, that looks pretty sharp.

My thinking has been to get the Krusell Windshield adapter arm and use it with the Marware Sidewinder clip I already have. The Sidewinder has a Krusell Multidapt 360 pin on the back. The 360 pin has these little ridges in it which allow it to rotate and lock in position.

I'll get some pics of my setup when I get the Krusell mount.

I am not old enough to drive, but me and my 17 teen year old cousin ride in my moms mustang, which we got the aux output that you can plug into the iPod, and I bought the adapter for my phone...

The Kensington came with stickies, but from recommendations from other users, I didn't use it.

Another way to mount is to use a brodit mount. They secure to specific car models. I cut out a window on the mount so that my revoclip can clip onto the mount. This way I can swivel the phone horizontally also.
When I get into the car, I unclip it from my belt and clip it into the car mount.
I then attach a Cerulean BT transmitter and listen to music using a BT connection to my Sony BT headunit. No wires.

    Default Sorry!!!

Sorry for bumping an old post, but I'm curious...

Can you have your iPhone an MobileMusicPlayer.app (I mean with the iPod app open) so you can see the album art? And also, can you control the music from BOTH the iPhone AND the head unit?

With this Alpine unit, I connected the iPhone to the iPod hokup and I can only control from the head unit. It sucks because it's easier to control from the iPhone. I am planning to connect to Aux so I can control from the iPhone but it's a bit of work and have been too lazy. One other disadvantage of being unable to control from the iPhone is the album art doesn't show.

So if anyone out there is connecting to an Alpine (dunno about other brands), use Aux, not the iPod connection.

If anyone is connecting their ipod/iphone to ANY car stereo, use Aux.

The sound quality is identical, to my ear anyway.

Controlling an ipod/iphone via a head unit is not fun. Not fun at all.

Errr, is the touch screen unresponsive when it's plugged in or what? More detail please. LoL

ADDED 1: Can you use the other features of the phone while it's plugged in? (Mail, Safari, etc.) If yes, what happens when you select the iPod app?

ADDED 2: Please tell me you don't get this ugly *** screen:

Correct. When it's plugged in to the iPod connection, pressing on the iPod icon on the iPhone brings up a white screen - dunno if there's a message, but you cannot use any iPod controls, except Home to go back to the main screen. You can use any other icon, but not the iPod function.

It was that ugly screen, but I changed it to this :

ADDED: Found a way around the lack of album art; install MobileScrobbler.app (for use with Last.FM) and you get this screen, which is even better IMO; it automatically does lyrics, artist info, concerts, etc.

I have a half assed one. Griffin itrip autoFM plugged into a Universal apple dock with 3g converter, it's kinda cool cuz I can use a remote also, it doesn't sound all that bad through the fm but would love to change it to aux. I'm thinking of updating my cd deck, what attachment do I need for aux? Could it plug into my uni dock? Ithink I'll look for a clamp style mount so it fits the dock as well, any suggestions? I do like the swivelstyles, do they have any clamp style?
