Thread: Spoof Device?
06-15-2012, 03:15 PM #1Spoof Device?
I need some sort of an application/tweak that could spoof specific apps into believing that my device is not in fact an iPod Touch, but an iPhone/iPad. Not sure if this can be done, but if it can, that would be wonderful.

Can't be done. Your device is identified by it's serial and hardware which is what tells the app whether it's an iPhone or iPod. For example, if I wanted to use one of those massage apps which uses your vibrate feature of your iPhone, it wouldn't be able to find the hardware making it impossible for it to work. So no, you can't.

What if the app in question doesn't need any of the iphone's hardware to run, just the iphones serial/udid or other form of identification? The app Checkpoints just won't let ipod touches (even those with cameras) scan items, its only enabled for iphones. It doesn't require any of the iphones hardware though. Still not possible?

Can't change your serial number or anything like that. Can change the device name and some of it's features, but it still detects if you have an iPhone or an iPod. Not possible sadly

Yep not possible unless the iPod gets new hardware which hopefully happens in the near future. If that happens, then we get talking

I believe you could mess around with the app's info.plist to solve your problem. Note: this app is probably restricted to iPhones for a reason.

1. What is the app's name, and
2. What version of iOS are you running? Example: 4.2.1, 4.3, 5.1 etc.
I will mess around and see wwhat can do.

It checks the devices internal hardware and just about everything else on it bro. There's really nothing you can do unless you somehow manage to fool iTunes and make it think it's an iPhone.
