Question about Open SSH not sure where to post it...

I've upgraded to firmware 3.0, jailbroken and downloaded Open SSH. I have the software installed on my Windows Vista machine. As I enter the login settings, it doesn't work. I had never used Open SSH before, so I'm wondering if some settings have changed.

I'm getting an IP address reading. The user name is root. The password is alpine. That's what the directions from this site said to do. Am I missing something?

Any ideas?

WinSGP, which is the one recommended in the topic posted here.

I think you mean WinSCP

You should be setup like this....
Click the image to open in full size.

Of course your IP may be different. Check your wifi settings for your IP address.
ENSURE that OpenSSH has been installed from Cydia.
Restart your phone.
Make sure your phone does not auto-lock while trying to connect. Wifi must be connected the entire time you use WinSCP.
Click login and it should connect.
It may take a time or two before it connects, but it should connect.

Is the WiFi address going to be what is on the phone or what the wireless protocol is (192.168.#.#)? Because I've followed all of what you wrote so far. I used the IP address shown in the WiFi settings on my phone, 169.254.#.#.

Yes, you got it. Good luck.
Here's a guide on SSH

I'm not getting any settings in the Router or DNS fields, just the IP address and Subnet mask. I'm wondering if that is my problem. I have problems getting any kind of access when I'm using WiFi, so I rarely use it.

Am I looking for a 192.168.#.# or the 169.254.#.#?

OK...it works now. Thanks for your help on this, but it moves me to my next question. Is it possible to access the programs on my phone? Perhaps in Notebook. Of all the silly things, I'd like to add an initial next to the sender's name of an SMS message. I have multiple mobile numbers associated to each contact, so I text up to three different numbers for each name. It's for the kids I coach. I have their parents' numbers in their vCard too. I'd like to put a (m) or (p) or (o) next to their name.

What kind of damage can I do to my iPhone? I'd like to take this out for a little spin.

Glad it worked out for you.
Not sure about the initials, don't really understand. Sorry

If you are not familiar with the things your are editing in the phone, it would be very easy to screw something up. There are plenty of threads on here to read over, as well, Google can be your best friend.

I know how to read code and know what I recognize vs. what I don't. Don't always know where to find it without a learning curve. I'm hoping someone here who has messed with it can tell me where to find the codes that create the templates.
