an iPhone Palm OS emulator?
Hello there... I was wondering... is there anyone working on developing a Palm OS emulator for the iPhone? would this even be possible? As a pharmacist, there is some very important software I need to run for my profession but it is only available for palm, which I find to be horrendously outdated.
Any helpful comments would be appreciated!

not likely, someone would either have to adapt the software for the iphone or figure out how to dual boot an OS, then find the drivers/resources needed for the palm OS to work with the iphone hardware. I think the iphone will have 100GB of storage before that will happen....

That's not necessarily true. There's a palmos emulator for windows mobile, that works by installing it, then installing palm apps, and you can select the palm apps just like your others, it just takes a minute to start up due to the emulator starting up in the background. All you have to do is write an moto 68k proc emulator and get some palm ROM files for it. This shouldn't be too hard for the person with the right programming knowledge. Although I am quite sure the iPhone will have 100GB of storage before you can use bluetooth, wi-fi, or your edge connection from within a palm emulator

When asked what he would say to the columbine killers, Marilyn Manson said, "I would say nothing to them. I would listen to what they have to say, because that's what nobody else did" from the movie Farenheit 9/11

I think it would be fantastic if we could get a Palm OS emulator running on the iPhone! There is tons of Palm software available including eBooks and medical references that would be very helpful to have on this platform.
The palm developer site has emulator source code for both Mac and PC and a sample Palm OS 4 ROM file. Unfortunately the mac emulator has not been updated since 2001 but it seems to run ok in my limited testing. You can download the emulator and source code from http://www.developerpavilion.com/palmos (registration required).
There is also a more modern commerical Palm emulator for Windows mobile. I'm not sure if they built their code from scratch:

Anyone else interested or any thoughts on how to proceed?

A palm os emulator would be fantastic...a dream come true considering that due to my reliance on some apps on my Treo (palmOS), I have been contemplating switching back to the using it as my primary mobile
...well, that and the volume of both speakerphone and ringtones, which IMO are so underpowered on the iPhone that they render themselves useless (not to mention frustrating). So PLEASE, pursue the whole PalmOS emu...great idea!

Palm Pilot Emulator For iPhone Very Possible!!
They actually already make a palm emulator that runs on mac OS 10.4 I used it for testing palm software that I was programing. It runs great. It shouldn't take too much to make that program run on the iphone as a widget or something. The program along with the Palm ROM file is under 10 MB. Since the iPhone actually runs Mac OS X and just uses a Different GUI The pre existing Palm Emulator for Mac OS 10.4 should be able to be converted to a widget to run on the iPhone. I'm pretty sure the download from the below list of websites that have version 3.5 of the palm emulator for mac comes with the source code. All you need then is someone who is willing to take the time to rewrite the thing to work on the iPhone. I have already seen gameboy emulators for the iphone so everyone reading this that wants this to happen needs to contact every programmer they know and try to talk them into trying to port it. If it happens I know I will buy it as soon as that software hits the market.
in case one goes down, here are several links to various sites that you can download the Palm OS Emulator that runs on Mac OS X.

Bumping this to try and keep this thread alive. Is there any one working on a Palm emulator? If the iPhone can emulate a NES, GBA and even a Playstation 1 it should have no trouble at all emulating at least Palm OS 4. I would love to see an emulator and would be more than happy to help in beta-testing. I still have all my Palm software from over the past few years and would love to be albe to use it on my iPhone and dump my Palm so I"m only carrying one device around.

That would be pretty sweet. So far no one with the knowledge able to develope such a thing has spoken up though.

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

Looks really great! Hopefully they will make it available to the public
It will probably not be free though....

BUT... they have said this is concept only, and they currently have no intentions to bring this to a commercial market.Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.
