Wifi/Mail - Auto update gmail accounts

I am a gmail freak! I use it to email, text message and to now days apply for jobs! I have used insomnia thinking that if i left wifi on for an "extended" time then mail would "fetch" data every 15 minutes. I do not have good credit or a bundle of money to get an iphone, (which i want desperately). Anyways it doesn't stay on for ever, like i would like it too.

Here is what i want in a program: (if not available already) a hack that i can use to keep that program running background and that wifi will stay on for as long as i keep it on.

I have used backgrounder in conjunction with insomnia: so far, no luck. Wifi still shuts off, and backgrounder continues to do its job.

Any ideas? thoughts? programs? or writers... Hope to hear from you guys!

I don't think you could keep Wifi on in the background...

It's just not possible.... or is it?

I'd like to know too.
