Oh you have to completely disassemble the phone to do it.....but if its not working, well....its worth it. Just dont break anything in the process

I have a similar problem.
my iphone fell on the ground and since then:
- the home button does not work anymore
- usb connection does not work anymore
- recharging works but takes forever
Iphone is jailbroken 1.1.4 and I tried literally everything from resetting, a complete reinstallation to opening up the iphone and checking if I could fix the Home button (i'll post some pictures if you like to see the internals :-) ). Nothing worked and I cannot bring it to the shop since it is jailbroken and (meanwhile) opened.
My iphone is already worthless for months due to this non-working home button.
I believe that currently the only two options left are:
- reprogram one of the sound buttons (if that would be possible) to act as the home button.
- write a small application that places a software button in the top layerLast edited by tvdbulck; 12-29-2008 at 05:03 AM. Reason: iphone hardware will be fixed, no need to pay for software anymore

^Without diagnosing the phone in front of me....Im 99% sure you damaged your dock assembly when you dropped it.
The dock includes the plug (for charging, etc) and home button also connects to it along with a few other things.
The part is around $50-$70 and is VERY hard to install, and it requires soldering.
Here's an example:

Hi cpjr,
thanks for your reply! My iphone currently looks very similar to those images :-) Meanwhile, i found a company (in the Netherlands) that fixes various iphone problems (iPod Reparatie Nederland iPod & iPhone Reparaties Laagste prijs 24 uurs service). I am sending my phone there and i hope they can fix it. I'll keep you all posted on the result.
T.
Hi Sullivan0930,
thanks for the info, I tried to install that app already before but the app simply didn't work. For other people reading this thread: the soft home button app is called ClickOnce, but I've read many comments on the iphonecake site (in chinese) about crashing iphones after installing htis app, so be very careful if you want to try it out.Last edited by tvdbulck; 12-29-2008 at 05:23 AM. My iphone is fixed!
As promised, some comments about the company iPod Reparatie Nederland iPod & iPhone Reparaties Laagste prijs 24 uurs service:
My iphone was fixed within 2 days and they provided excellent and quick customer feedback (through email). While they received my phone right before new year, they were fixing it right away. At first, I was a little scared to send my iphone via a postal package, but it all turned out very well. So one happy customer here!

My iphone home button does not work as well, but I use this open source app and I won't have to replace my phone now. Try this: How laidbacklucy Did It - How to fix non-functional home button in jail broken i-phone | eHow.com. It is an instruction to install an application to close the apps and will solve the problem of non-working home button. I found it very useful.

there is an app in cydia called activator. You can set different swipes or volume up and down combos to be whatever you want, including a press of the home button

dust in the button
Thanks Laidbacklucy for your post. My home button stopped working gradually over a couple weeks and after your advice in the link:

I was able to get it going again. I work in very dusty environments sometimes and the port had drank up a lot of dust, after dusting out the port with a toothbrush and then blowing it out with compressed air I was able to restore it's function!!
