My computer monitor is my television, so if my wife is watching something on TV, I can't get on my computer to sync anything, so it would be nice to be able to use my iPhone to tell iTunes what to sync, and then let it do it wirelessly while my TV is not available.

I know exactly what you mean. Things are the exact same for me. Honestly, I see a lot of "not worth it" comments, and while it might be slower, that doesn't mean all of the applications of use should be thrown out the window.
The point of the matter... The hardware is already there. It's a competitor feature, and has been for years now. There has long since been an app that lets us use iTunes remotely which uses a password, so there is no risk on unwanted devices connecting to it.
Another scenario i've found myself in from time to time(and the forgetful people with feel me here)... I usually get everything set up for music in my car before leaving. Every now and again, I find I forgot to sync a few songs before leaving. I can still get my wifi connection no problem from my car. Good time to have something like that for a quick few songs without having to go back inside to do all of it. To have the option of what to grab from the device itself isn't something Apple would have to do themselves, i'm sure.
Another scenario would be hitting sync and throwing your device in your pocket or whatever the case may be while you continue any last minute routines before leaving home, the device continues to sync and there is no forgetting the device because it was left sitting on a desk for a sync instead of with you. Which is more of an issue in the case of an iPod(which I have) than an iPhone(which, I doubt people are going to forget their phone), but still a nice solution.
These are just on top of the examples people have already given. I also use my computer and monitor for TV(as a DVR and such, as well as my main source of watching anything). So, being able to do this stuff without interrupting other uses would be perfect for that.
There are plenty of services and features to other things that I don't use or need, but that doesn't make them unwanted or unused by others. I, for one, would use something like this daily.
