Thread: Wireless Sync With Itunes

I'm not even sure it's necessary for music/photo/movie/app syncs. Right now, you can pretty much do all that, with a few caveats (app limitations) with Dropbox's new iPhone app. They're working on copying the files to the iPhone, so it is a work-around (you can look, but you can't touch). Movies can be streamed, music can be streamed (Spotify--soon! Pandora--Now!), apps can already be downloaded, along with updates. Apple is trying to keep the customers tied to iTunes and the Macbooks, instead of letting us be free to choose. I have MobileMe, and compared to Dropbox, it's kludgy. Me want cut cord now!

In my opinion, wireless syncing works really well on the Zune. Sure, it might take a bit longer, but it's a heck of a lot more convenient. My iPod and iPhone are plugged in various places around my house during the day, and it'd be nice if I could sync from anywhere (no, I don't need syncing via EDGE/3G, that would just be painful). When I had my Zune, I'd just plug it in next to my bed at night and it would automatically sync itself over my wireless network without me having to do a single thing. It's convenience like that that would make an iPod touch or iPhone so much more compelling to prospective customers.

+1.
New wireless charging technologies are finally starting to appear; it'd be completely awesome to be able to set my iPhone on a charging mat by the door and have it sync to my computer in the other room. Honestly, the stupid thing takes forever to sync anyways, so if it takes 2 x (forever) to sync without any wires it'd be fine.
I think I saw a Mac/Linux wireless sync program running around on the forum that uses scp/ssh protocols... seems to me that a Windows version could be hacked together with a fancy Python script calling ssl4py or conch, but I'm very much a novice in this stuff.

Dunno; I've been screwing around with ssl4py for a few days now, trying to compile it for python 3.1 - it's just beyond my skill set atm. I'm also not sure how you'd go about faking a usb connection with iTunes... really, I've got almost no idea what I'm talking about.
(To get around the ssl4py problem, I ended up writing a little .js that did some command-line stuff for WinSCP. Probably a bit kludgy for a wide-release kind of application...)

I would love this. I don't normally hook my phone to my computer unless I am trying to sync it. Most of the time I charge it with the wall outlet by my night stand or with my car charger. If you don't want to use something like that, then that's your choice. but for some of us it really would be handy.

Perhaps you're a little slow...
The end with the MALE usb connection connects to the computer;
the end with the FEMALE usb connection accepts anything you'd like to connect to it--for example; your iPod's usb charging/sync cable.

lol, I am not the one who is slow then am I? That means that this is NOT a wireless solution. You would have to plug your iphone into the usb and plug the usb into your female end of the wireless sync device...think about it!

In my opinion, there are a lot of things that are not worth it, but that's why it's called an opinion, everyone's is different. I think this would be a good idea, it would be much better if you could select what to sync via the iPhone especially. My computer monitor is my television, so if my wife is watching something on TV, I can't get on my computer to sync anything, so it would be nice to be able to use my iPhone to tell iTunes what to sync, and then let it do it wirelessly while my TV is not available.
