Well now that there's some real GPS it would be cool to find your iPhone via another iPhone or even a website... my 1st gen got stolen and i kissed it goodbye as soon as i noticed it was missing
I would love an app that checks a central server to see if it was stolen or not, and then reports its GPS coordinates to the server and even locks the phone down asking to be returned to an apple/phone store!
I would like an App like Quasi-Low Jack, from iPhone v1, that emails me the coordinates of the WiFi antenna nearest from my iPhone... But for iPhone 3G, working with GPS coordinates...
1) having a very simple software setup on computer that is a direct link to phone at all times. Like monitoring systems parents put into cars. Only on host computer. Information regarding coordinates could be issued to police or anyone who really cares lol
I really like this idea, and would consider it a great asset to the iphone!
Instamapper is making progresses on this theme.
Try GPS Tracker, available on AppStore for FREE!
Goods:
- It tracks the iPhone GPS and it sends the coordinates to a website (instamapper.com, only you have access), 5segs interval
Bads:
- It has to run in foreground, you cant exit the App
- So, 3G must be on = only 5 hours of battery
This App will be used much more when Apple allow brackground running Apps.
What to do with this App?
Im doing this:
- When im on a street of highly risk of being stolen, i put this App on. Since my keyboard unlocked is blocked with key, the thief doest have access to the App, and im willing that he doesnt know how to turn it off, or take out the batteries...
