ok this is an idea for all the trekky nerds out there.

the phone is unlocked and you are on the springboard screen

you flick the phone forward in your hand like they used to in the old skool startrek, the iphone detects the movement with the accelerometer, and plays the star trek comunicator sound and then launches the phone app.

This would be a great app to function much like the home button double tap for your contact list. it'd take integration with that which may not be allowed due to Apple AppStore specs (linking apps to any other Apple Produced App except Safari), so it may be a great cydia gimmick app. Basically if you start it as if it was closed (with the gold wire cover down) and then the accelerometer registers a flick it opens andgives nyou access to your contacts, and allows you to dail straight from the App. it'd be pretty cool if Apple would work up some voice dial app that it can link to to prevent having to search through contacts to be able to dial, but that's not available. If it then kept on speakerphone mode too, you'd almost have the real thing.

Pretty cool concept Id' think. Get on it Dev's!

There is an app out there, Star Radio Communicator, that does exactly what you're talking about. You flick the phone and it opens and closes the "communicator" interface. You can also make calls with it, too. There is a video of it on this site
