Nextel Walkie talkie app?

My roommate has nextel and he needs to keep it for work. He really wants an iphone and I can unlock it for him so it will work I think, but he needs the walkie talkie function of nextel phones. I was wondering if it is possible to create an application that can do this. Is it even possible? He said he will donate $100 to anyone who successfully makes the app.

I wouldn't think so. The walkie talkie uses a specific frequency. I think it's out of the iPhone's radio range. Plus, Sprint is about to phase out the iDen walkie talkie for Moto Q-Chat...

PTT is a network related service - AT&T supports PTT on some Nokia phones, but I am not sure if iPhone is capable of PTT.
