AMR Speech Codec Mod

Any chance someone can develop a mod to disable the stupid Half-Rate codec on the iphone. If you are on ATT and go to field test mode, there is a 90% chance you are using the half rate codec. With motorolas you could mod it to force Full-Rate or EFR (enhanced full rate). You get better call quality and sometimes better signal from this. I havent been able to find much information about it. Thanks
