Disable mute button on phone calls

OK, i have a major problem, and i think it's because my iphone doesn't work right, but it doesn't turn off the touchscreen and buttons quick enough when i put my phone to my ear. The result is my jawbone bumps the mute button almost every time! Yes, i know I can lock the phone upon answer or calling, but sometimes that doesn't activate quick enough either!
Here's what I'm looking for: A way to make the mute button a slide 'on/off' switch instead of a button. I can't imagine it'd take that much, it would just take a special editing of what's there. Or even an application that overlays that mute button upon placing a call with that sliding mute button...
