Downgrade help?? 3Gs 6.1 BB 05.16.08

Hi all I am on 6.1 and stupidly upgrade my BB to 5.16.08 which cannot be unlocked. So I have found this guide on how to downgrade my BB to 4.1 and then back up so it can be unlocked. Downgrade iPhone 3GS iOS 6.1 Baseband 5.16.08 to 5.13.04 for Unlocking | Beijing iPhone Repair

So I do all of the steps but iTunes gives me the error (the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible) any ideas on how to get past this?? Cheers.

I think that guide might be a little outdated, but follow this:

1) Download the latest redsn0w
2) Press Jailbreak
3) Follow the onscreen instructions to get into DFU mode
4) check install iPad Baseband; install cydia does not need to be checked
5) let the process run
6) open up redsn0w again and then repeat the process to get into DFU mode
7) Now there should be an option to downgrade the iPad baseband, check that instead now
8) Download ultrasn0w

and then bam your phone should be unlocked

I am assuming that RS 0.9.15b3 is the correct RS to use??

Yeah that's the right version, what error pops up when redsn0w crashes?

What carrier is your phone locked to and what are the first five digits of your serial number?

It says. redsn0w.exe has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

and my serial number is 87122AKBEDG

Also I ran RS in compatibility XP SP2 and ran as administrator and disabled Avast which I have read on other sites.

Hmmm not to sure of that I'm sorry is there a way to tell? I live in New Zealand and purchased it locked from an auction site here and jailbroke and unlocked it and haven't had any issues until this?

Might be able to tell from the model number under settings/general/about.

Not running redsnow on windows 8 are you?

Hey, Nah I have Windows 7 and the model number is MC640LL/A. I also ran a search of the model number and it seems to indicate that it is an At&t phone originally?? Cheers gain for the help.

Yup, looks like AT&T. In that case I would suggest getting it officially unlocked. Once done it is permanent. No more worrying about baseband or anything like that.

I didn't know such a service existed. Thats cool. so I have just paid them $15. Will the phone just become unlocked? Will they email when it is done?
Oh and will I have to do anything this end? And what about cydia, will it still work etc. Ahhh so many Qs sorry about that and thanks so much for the help simon

He will email you when it is done. Once he does you can just restore to 6.1 and iTunes will unlock it once the restore is done. Then you can jailbreak with evas10n if you want to.

Hey Simon. Sorry to sound silly. It is already updated to 6.1 and 05.16.08 and when I turn itunes on it doesn't ask me to update/restore so what do I do? I tried to do a restore to an earlier backup but it didnt unlock?? Cheers and I am sure it is something easy. Thanks for all the help.

Oh all good I did the restore again but this time with my sim in it and its all go YAY thanks again Simon I owe you a beer.

I just wanted to make sure I understood the instructions correctly; you are saying I can do all this while I am on 6.1?
