iPhone 3Gs - pain in the ***
Hello and welcome all !

I recently got iPhone 3Gs from a friend which is, unfortunately, SIM locked.
Anyway, it had iOS 6 on it, so I searched a little and found that the best would be to downgrade so that i could unlock it (for free). Using redsn0w I downgraded it to iOS 4.1 with 06.15 iPad baseband, had 1015 error during process but managed to resolve it with recovery fix option.
The problem is that i have no signal (or I have one bar, but i cannot make/receive calls) after that. I tried downgradeing to 05.13.04 baseband (also iPad) but it gives me same result. Wifi does not work to, it sees networks and says that it is connected but I cannot go to internet !
Any idea how to solve this, maybe update to iOS 5 (1/1.1) would help ? If so how to update? Should i use rednsn0w or smth different ?
Hope you can help !Last edited by dr.benko; 01-29-2013 at 01:10 PM.

5.13.04 is the baseband you want (that is not the iPad baseband btw). You need to install ultrasnow from cydia for it to actually be unlocked though. Without wifi working it is a bit tricky to do this, but not impossible.
You will need ifunbox and a copy of ultrasnow and mobile substrate.
ultrasnow and MS: https://hotfile.com/dl/191459298/bf7...w_1.2.zip.html
ifunbox: i-FunBox v2.1 | File Manager, Browser, Explorer, Transfer Tool for iPhone, iPad & iPod
Use ifunbox to get access to the file system of your phone. Then go to var/root/media/Cydia/AutoInstall and drag those two files (ultrasnow and mobile substrate) into the autoinstall folder (if folder is not there you can create it, type it just like you see I put it above). Then open and close cydia twice, then reboot. You should have ultrasnow installed then. Make sure you do this on 4.1 as these version of ultrasnow and mobile substrate are not up to date to work with 5.1.1.Last edited by Simon; 01-29-2013 at 01:42 PM.

First of all, thanks for the quick answer !
Didn't know that it is iPhone baseband.
I think that with this tut I will unlock my phone, but first, I think it is the best to get signal and than to play with unlocking ?Trust Me, I'm an "Engineer"

Well you aren't going to get signal unless you unlock it. Unless you are trying to use it with the carrier it is locked to.

i bought an unlock off ebay for 1.80
sometimes its just easier to pay 2 dollars and factory unlock the phone.

One more question, actually, two.
What if I want tu upgrade to iOS 5(.1.1) but that my iPhone is still jailbroken and unlocked. Is it possible, if so how ?
I think it is, I just need to download correct ipsw and flash it with some options checked in redsn0w.
What about "hard reset" how can,I hard reset jailbroken iPhone (any iOS) but that I still have jailbreak and unlock (so just delete all data (apps, pics, songs, notes...)) ?Trust Me, I'm an "Engineer"

No, SHSH are device specific, you can't use someone else's unfortunately. Do you know if you have old or new bootrom 3GS?

Oh well. If you had old bootrom you could have gone to 5.1.1 without SHSH. Not with new bootrom though. There is a new jailbreak coming out very soon though (maybe Sunday) for 6.1 firmware. You may be able to go there at some point.

If you mean the "Erase All Content and Settings" button then no, don't do it. That can leave a jailbroken iPhone in boot loop.
