Default Downgrading Iphone 3GS (new bootrom) from 5.01 to 4.3.3 - phone not functioning
    Hi

I have tried downgrading my Iphone 3GS (new bootrom) from 5.01 to 4.3.3 using the following method:

    1) Iphone in PWN’ed DFU mode using redsn0w

    2) Added 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com to hosts file

    3) Restored Iphone with 4.3.3 IPSW, the restore ends in the usual 10xx error, but seems to work fine apart from that

    So far so good.

At this point the phone is repeatedly stuck in recovery mode, and none of the acquired methods could change this: recboot, redsn0w or tinyumbrella.

Got the phone out of recovery mode simply by jailbreaking using redsn0w, which I would have done anyway.

The problem now is, that the phone functionality is non-existing. After booting the phone asks for the SIM-card code, so the SIM is actually detected, it seems.

When looking at the setup in itunes, no details about the sim card (phone number etc) is present. It seems that part of the setup is missing. This is the case also on the phone itself – no number, carrier or anything.

Any ideas to solve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

    BR, Morten

Hi. Were you able to find a solution to your issue? I am trying to do exactly what you did and your research can help me a lot. I have the same, iPhone 3GS, new bootrom, modem firmware 06.15.00, running iOS 5.0 and I wish to restore it to stock everything. Thanks.

Hi - yes, i did find a solution, bu tonly after trying a different approach using Sn0wbreeze to create a custom IPSW, which i then flashed to my device in iTunes.

This seemed to bypass the 10xx error, and i had no problems with the device being stuck in recovery mode. Everything worked flawlessly, and i am now running IOS4.3.3 :-)

Regarding the baseband downgrade: if you have the new bootrom, i am afraid that you are stuck with the 6.15.00 firmware for the time being. At least thats what i read in different posts on the topic.

But i also read that Dev Team member Musclenerd is working on a method of downgrading the 6.15.00 baseband. Check out his twitter page for further info.

    Regards, Morten

Yep. At this point, no baseband downgrades can be done so you're stuck there :L

In anticipation of the release (and I have been waiting over a year) of the 06.15 and GPS fix. You should all get ready by following this to avoid any possible pesky iTunes errors: That means latest iTunes, save SHSH blobs, backup and download your IPSWs
