My 3G AT&T was JB two years ago at a cost of $100 !!!!
The version was 3.1.3.
Now all apps require v4 at least.
I need your advice:
I know moving 3G to v4 is not recommended because of cpu speed ( but speed is of no concern) as long as it is functioning.!!!
Whatever I do to upgrade I need to be sure if it fails I can go back to my old Status ( $100 waisted!!!) And this I donot know how to do ? ( I mean backup my Iphone so I can go back to it with the "old" JB)
Looking at your chart to select the JB method it states Firmware 4 and above as PRESENT VERSION BEFORE JB
but I have 3.1.3 AND JB already.
You see where my confusion is AND the help I need !!!
If it's 3G and not 3GS, I believe u can go back to 3.1.3 from 4.x if u want...if I were u I'd stay on 3.1.3 unless the apps that require 4.x you can't live without... If u insist on updating make sure u have all apps synced in iTunes as well as music etc...any iTunes store purchases..also, drag all pics n vids off of phone and sync contacts off phone somehow..I sync with outlook..you should do an iTunes backup of the phone also before u update, but I wouldn't use it after restore. Backups have tendency of getting corrupted..anyway go into iTunes after backing up everything and click on restore, not update. iTunes should do it's thing. After restore is complete, iTunes asks to restore from backup or setup as a new phone. You can use the backup u did if u didn't backup everything outside of iTunes backup, but if u did backup everything outside of iTunes backup, then setup as a new phone. Do that then sync everything back.
If u go up to 4.2.1 then JB with Redsnow or greenpoison of appropriate version..
I'm assuming u don't unlock and r on AT&T network..

How would you go about a jailbreak on a phone whose history is unknown? It's a 3G iPhone in restore mode, my iTunes is 10.5.x and I'm hesitant to restore blindly.
