    Default Upgrade iPhone 3GS from 4.3.3 5.12.01 to 5.0.1

    Hi experts
I have a 3GS with specs listed above jailbroken using snowbreeze with custom firmware.
I want to get that phone to 5.0.1.
Can I do a clean restore to 5.0.1 via iTunes?
I know I will loose the jailbreak and unlock.
But does it also update my baseband?

    Thanks in advance

Yeah create custom 5.0.1 with snowbreeze to preserve bb...I don't unlock so I don't know enough about that...I have 3GS and did this..was on 5.0.1 for a while...works well on 3GS but is more of a ram storage and battery hog than even 4.3.3 is...I went back to 4.2.1...

If u don't preserve bb yes it will update and u won't be able to unlock that bb...I think yours is unlockable so make sure u preserve!! Then JB with redsn0w 0.9.10b4... Untethered!

+1. That baseband is unlockable, the baseband should be preserved. A custom fw is absolutely vital, do not upgrade straight through iTunes. Do a shift+restore to custom fw.

So upgrade straight from iTunes is possible but not recommended due to baseband preservation.
    Thanks

Right...you just want to avoid hitting that "upgrade" button.

Really?....mine worked fine...3GS 32gb...I went back to 4.2.1 cuz it was more of a ram battery and storage hog than even 4.3.3 was...ran fine though...

+1. Shouldn't be too much of an issue for 3GS. Won't be as snappy as the 4/4S but it isn't bad.
