A few questions about Downgrading
Hi, a few questions about downgrading a 3GS.
Why does this forum say it is harder to downgrade a 3GS?
I have restored to a firmware Apple was no longer signing with iFaith, and it was really straightforward.
But I restored from 4.3.2 to 4.3.2 ( same firmware but apple were no longer signing )
So is that why it was easy? Since it wasn't really a "downgrade"?
Also can someone please explain to me how I can create a 5.0.1 ispw so that in the future if I ever want to restore and apple has stopped signing it I can always come back to 5.0.1? I am a bit confused with APtickects or whatever they are now..
I have 3GS Old Bootrom if it makes a difference.
Thanks in Advance!

Well, with 5.0.1 you can create another firmware using iFaith. Also, if you happen to know if you have an old bootrom 3GS all you need to downgrade are your shsh's using TinyUmbrella and restore to it. If it is a new bootrom 3GS then you will need to make a custom firmware with iFaith to preserve the AP Ticket.

So what exactly do I do with the blobs? Do I Shift+restore on them?

OK thanks. I'll save my Blobs then =)
@2k1dakotaman : Yes, I think that as long as there is already a tethered jailbreak Old Boot can be untethered.
I was untethered on 5.0 before the 5.0.1 jailbreak came out.

you seem to know what you're talking about ... so two more questions
Hi!
I'm was following your thread and wanted to ask:
I want to downgrade my 3gs old bootrom from 5.0.1 back to 4.1
- Can I restore to a CUSTOM fw instead of a stock fw using TinyUmbrella?
- If not (it didn't work the first time), will a stock firmware UPGRADE (not downgrade) my BaseBand? I'm still on 04.26.08 and I wouldn't want the downgrade of iOS to upgrade the BB.
Thanks!
(Background:
I want to jb and unlock, and couldn't care less if I was to my 4.1 cfw jailbroken and unlocked and stay there.
Here's what happened:
I tried updating from 4.1 to 5.0.1 using pwnage with "activate" flagged, but got the 160X errors and surprisingly my iPhone is locked "No SIM ...".
I continued nevertheless to try and use redsn0w to re-jailbreak, but I keep getting errors and redsn0w fails.
So I re-tried the process several times including shutting off/on the iPhone, the Mac, un/re-installing iTunes, ...
I also tried downgrading with TU to the cfw 4.1 I still have saved on my Mac, but TU also said it could not succeed.
Now I'm thinking to try TU again, maybe this time with a stock fw and not a cfw, and then jb/unlock. I just don't want my bb upgraded to whatever bb comes with the stock 4.1)
