Help upgrading from 4.2.1 to 5.0 or 5.0.1

Hi all,

I am currently using an iPhone 3GS with the new bootrom. I am with T-Mobile and have unlock on the phone. I would like to upgrade to the newer firmware. How can I do this?? I tried making a custom firmware and restoring but I continuously received errors when trying to restore with it...What should I do? (On my PC I get a number error, On my Mac I get an unrecognized ipsw error) I have tried downloading and creating a new custom firmware and got the same problems

Open redsn0w0.9.10b2
Look for Extras
Custom IPSW (download 5.0.1 from iPhone, iPod, iPad and Firmware/Software Download)
expect to finish
It will look like this (NO_BB_OLDROM_iPhone2, 1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore)
Open iTunes
Run a Shift + Restore to the new Custom IPSW (remember to put your iPhone in DFU mode)
