Restoring on 4.0.2

How do I clear my iPhone 3GS without updating to 5.0.1?
It is currently on 4.0.2 and I am planning to sell it unlocked and jailbroken.
Restoring on any firmware other then 5.0+ doesn't work for me, I get error 3194(something like that).

Set your hosts file back to apple server.
Create a custom firmware of 4.1.
Put iphone into pwned dfu mode and restore to cfw of 4.1

If you have installed tiny umbrella, uncheck set host file to cydia : Now you are pointing towards apple server.
To pwn with redsn0w, you browse to stock firmware and select pwned dfu mode.
To create a custom firmware you need snowbreeze 2.1 or Pwnage tools 4.1.3 to create one.
Once your iphone is in pwned dfu mode, run itunes : shift/option + restore to cfw of 4.1 (No error will pop up )

now u r on 4.0.2 with modem firmware (base band) 5.13.04

So best bet upgrade with 4.3.3 and persevered baseband then u can still unlock ur iPhone with ultra sn0w

Without SHSHs, 4.3.3 can't be achieved.

4.1 can be done without SHSHs, therefor without getting error 3194.

Just want to add, if you have shsh for 4.3.5/4 then you can downgrade to 4.3.3(it's work on 3gs. However you cant use ifaith to save shsh for 4.3.3, keep prompt me fail message but at least you get untether.)

If you have 4.3.4 & 4.3.5 shsh, then you can restore to only these two fw and not 4.3.3
