iPhone 3GS upgrading queries (I managed already to upgrade from 3.1.3 to 4.1)
Hi there
apologies in advance if I'm asking something constantly asked, if the answer is detailed elsewhere just point me in the right direction if you like
(most guides seem to be about downgrading, I want to upgrade... just not to the latest iOs 5)
Anyway I inherited my father's iPhone 3GS. It had iOs 3.1.3 on it, and it seemed to be jailbroken already (so he could change carrier I believe), as it had that Cydia app on it.
There are some apps from the apple app store I'd like to use, that require 4.2 or higher.
well after some googling I found some firmwares here: iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
but could only get 4.1 to work. I backed up before updating, on a separate XP computer. Updated using option key + update in Itunes on my main OSX machine.
After updating it seems the Cydia app has disappeared (no big deal, I have no idea what purpose jailbreaking is for...other than changing phone carriers ?...and it's dawning on me now, maybe to pick & choose firmwares ?)
Well I guess I'm rambling. Basically is it at all possible to upgrade my iPhone to iOS 4.3.5 ?
Currently on 4.1
If so, what do I do ? ... or if you prefer to point me to a guide?
thanks for your time

Why not just update to iOS 5?

Why even bother asking that question in a forum dedicated primarily to downgrading 3GS iPhones ?
I mean, seriously ?

Well why wouldn't you just update it to iOS 5 instead of trying to put 4.3.5 on it?

I'm not going to dignify that kind of stupid question with an answer.
Am I missing something ? Is this the 'why don't you just update to the latest iOs' forum, only it's disastrously mistitled ?
seriously, you're just trolling me at this stage. please don't post more messages unless they are going to be helpful.

Then explain to me why it makes sense to update to 4.3.5.

Have you even bothered to read my opening post ? I'm interested in apps that require 4.2, and have recently discovered that some need 4.3
besides, what kind of basement dwelling ******* retard are you anyway ? ... I've never read such inane questions before. Honestly, a forum about downgrading 3gs iPhones and the guy is suggesting upgrading to iOs 5.0, and making me justify my desires to stay on iOs 4.Last edited by Kitty O; 11-06-2011 at 03:56 PM.

ok guys, flaming other members and spamming is prohibited. that said...
check out THIS quick Tutorial.
select the IPSW 4.3.5 for your model iPhone and follow the guide
i know it says downgrading, but the results are the same. BTW, if you use IE to download you will need to change the file extension from .zip to .ipsw by renaming it.
good luck, let us know how it turns out
oh, another thing... if you have older Baseband f/w you may want to preserve it by flashing a custom 4.3.5 IPSWLast edited by zedbra; 11-06-2011 at 07:55 PM.

I'd love to know how it worked out, Kitty. I'm trying to get there too, and in looking at the tutorial I note they say you need to have shsh blobs for the firmware saved in Cydia. If the phone has never been to a jailbroken 4.3.5, there probably wont be any saved. This is the situation I face, also. I've already upgraded to 5, then back to 4.1 (several times) but the firmware I want on my phone is 4.3.5. I'll settle for 4.3.3. I have a feeling I might be stuck, though.
How did you go?
