3GS 3.1.3 upgrade to either 3.2 or 4.3.3, will my jailbroken apps still work?
Well as the title says, I have a jailbroken 3GS with 3.1.3. I haven't really cared about new apps because I have what I use, but lately it seems so many apps that I'm trying at least require 3.2. I'm ready to upgrade but I just have questions. Will the cydia apps I have work with the updated firmware and new jailbreak? Will I lose anything during the process? How much will remain unchanged? etc.
Basically I want to upgrade my 3GS and have my phone the same way it was jailbroken with the new firmware.
Can it be done, and how would I go about doing it?
The short answer is maybe. The long answer is also ... maybe .
Most have been updated and will work just fine. Not all, but most. It just depends upon what you're using. Even if they don't work, usually a replacement app/tweak works as good or better than the old one.
A restore cleans house. Everything is gone and must be re-installed.
BTW: Do you have SHSH blobs? No SHSH blobs = No restore
Well, i know a restore cleans house, I've looked into Aptbackup in hopes of saving my cydia apps and just sync for the apple apps. no blobs that i know of (im not sure where i would originally get them) unless the list of the ones in tinyumbrella are actually mine (wouldnt make sense since i havent updated since 3.1.3 and there are plenty from other fw)
*oh and about the shsh, i read that "all about shsh" article *somewhat, i skimmed* and read the part about why i have those blobs

Reason: i read some more
No SHSH blobs == no restores
That's the first and most important thing to check !!!
Use Tiny Umbrealla to discover what (if any) SHSH blobs are saved for your device.
Also, please read All about SHSH and Tiny Umbrella Restores from the links in my signature.
AptBackup creates a 'list' of installed apps. That 'list' of apps/tweaks may or may not be compatible with the new version. If you give me the list, I'll check what is compatible. But this is wasted time IF you don't have blobs. Use Tiny Umbrella and see what is available.
It's much easier to open Cydia, press the bottom button Manage, then Packages.
Everything installed via Cydia is listed there. It's also the same as AptBackup
While you're in Cydia. At the top of the primary Cydia page may be a green line starting with 'SHSH: ". The numbers after are your saved SHSH blobs
** Themes may be compatible. Plus a couple others not 100% sure.
Personally, if you're happy ..... stay put. It takes considerable time and effort to restore, re-sync, find-locate-and-install the updated or replacement apps.
Those are links. Clink on them to reveal lots of information. Information you really want to know
Baseband is the same as Settings / General / About / Modem firmware.
If you're not an authorized carrier (AT&T in US) ... this is VERY IMPORTANT to you !!
