Options?
3Gs 32GB FW4.3.5 (Tethered JB) BB 05.16.02 SHSH saved 4.1 and 4.3.5. Is 4.1 my only option for a untethered JB and unlock at this point?
Just got this thing running from the deeps of hell, and would like to have it as a back up 2 my iPhone 4, the phone came from France so I am assuming that an unlock is a must for AT&T or T-Mobile? Please let me know what you guys think, thanks.

4.1 is your only full jailbreak option. Optional: the iPad 6.15.0 baseband can be installed to unlock.

Could you post a link to the correct way to do this? And will I lose GPS if I install the ipad BB?

Stock 4.1 firmware will work although a custom firmware built with Pwnage is my preferred.
iTunes may return a 10xx error, use Tiny Umbrella 'exit recovery' (not fix recovery).
Jailbreak with redsn0w rc 0.9.6rc18 twice.
First with one option 'install Cydia', the second time with one option 'Install iPad baseband'.
Install Ultrasn0w (via Cydia) for the unlock.

When I try to restore with iTunes with a custom 4.1 fw I can't get past preparing iPhone for restore in iTunes and get the apple logo on the phone, then it errors out (unknown error 1604) tried a stock 4.1fw and when it finished I got connect to iTunes logo on the phone. Not sure what else to try, any ideas?

OK. Easily fixed.
Use redsn0w, select 4.1, check one option "just enter pwnd-DFU' mode,
follow the count-down timer carefully. Exit redsn0w. Then restore w/iTunes again.

ITunes says it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode not dfu mode is this my problem? I have tried the this 4 times with the stock and custom with the same results.

Error 1604 is a DFU mode restore issue.
Start off fresh. Turn off the phone by pressing the home+power for 6-8 secs then release both. It's ok if it powers on again.
Use the redsn0w instructions to enter pwnd-DFU mode.
Shift/select restore w/iTunes.
Just ignore messages from iTunes until after you begin the iTunes restore.

When I load the stock 4.1 every thing looks normal until the end that is when I get the USB cable to connect icon and get error 1015 could not restore. An unknown error occurred 1015 is what it says in iTunes. When I try the custom it won't even begin to load the fw and errors 1604.

At the end ... when iTunes reports Error 1015, use Tiny Umbrella 'exit recovery' (not fix recovery).

If have tried this when I click on exit recovery in tiny it just sits there without doing any thing with connect to iTunes icon on phone, any other way the exit recovery mode? I have been reading for days, this should be easy.
I am using windows xp

If exit recovery does not work, the phone was not restored properly.
It's possible the hosts file is incorrectly set.
Edit and delete all gs.apple.com entries from your computer hosts file and reboot the computer.
Start over, force power-off the phone as I directed.
Enter pwnd-dfu mode w/redsn0w, exit.
Restore w/iTunes. If error 1015, use TU + exit recovery.
Jailbreak w/redsn0w.

Where would I delete the host files from?

Here: C
Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Don't delete ..... edit hosts and remove gs.apple.com lines. Then save it
The hosts file must be read-write (right-click properties, reset read-only box).

After I do this I can restore stock 4.1 fw with iTunes like any other restore or am missing something with SHSH? I understand everything else I have JB 10 different phones over the past year, not sure what I am missing?
