Starting with the 3GS, and all iOS versions 4.0 and above for all iDevices ... SHSH blobs are required except for the current version. 3G and 3GS users are very lucky at the moment. Apple is also authorizing iOS 4.1

Where can I download a known good 4.1 fw, if apple is still signing it it should be a simple restore...correct?

4.1 should be relatively easy, it depends upon the current state of your computer and your iphone.
Either one incorrectly set or in an odd state will cause problems.

After a full day of getting nothing done, would it be a good idea to let iTunes update to 4.3.5 again and than try to downgrade to stock 4.1???

Please don't do that. It doesn't help one bit .... and usually causes more problems.

Mes, are you sure apple did not stop signing 4.1 from 4.3.5 today? I know you are a busy man.... Hence, you are the only person helping. When u get a chance, can u read through the entire thread (anytime, you get a chance) and let me know...I have read every post here, google and other sites on this simple process... It is driving me nuts, not to mention the wife! It is just a quest to get this 3GS working without a tethered JB this is number six in the fleet of iPhones (people give me their destroyed devices and I order and replace the damaged components) and I pass them on to family and friends for free.

I just checked two different 3GS iPhones and one 3G. Apple is still signing 4.1.

Tomorrow we'll review the process ... step by step.
