With the iPad baseband installed, this causes an obstacle for iPhone users to restore the standard way. It gets a little complicated depending on what firmware the device is on or has SHSHs available for. Creating a custom firmware with the appropriate tool is key for iPad baseband users, but with that, the restore process also requires pwned dfu mode offered by redsn0w, iReb, pwnagetool, and sn0wbreeze before doing the shift+restore. This will avoid error 1600 and allow the restore to finish.
In the case of the OP, oddly enough this process isn't getting out of the DFU loop that it is supposed to with the custom fw. That's where I'm stumped

Yes, i am not unknown to restoring and jailbreaking, ive been doing it for a long time and this has got me stumped also. I will try the steps previously posted by the other user *Thanks* but still the question is why does my 3gs not go into a dfu loop when restored to 4.3.4? Any other firmware from 4.1 -> 4.3.3 all go into this dfu loop. I have tried fix recovery and such but with no luck yet.
I have just attempted the steps the other user said; When restoring to stock 4.3.3 (from the link you provided even though i already had it) I started tinyumbrella tss server (for some reason even when i put the 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com at the bottom of my hosts file in win7 it gives me the 3194 error...) and then selected the stock 4.3.3 firmware, i recieved a 1600 error. Thats when im restoring to stock firmware. If i had used iReb or prepared it for a custom restore, it would have worked fine, except when it reaches the part in the restore where it installs a baseband check/update and you get the 1015 error, this error would come up but the phone would immeadiantly go into a dfu loop. ???

iPhone 4 Stuck in DFU Loop after update - GSM-Forum
There must be a reason this is happerning, and there must be a fix somehow.

I still cant restore, can anyone help? It seems like when i dont use tiny umbrellla the restore works but goes into recovery mode. I have tried not using tu, and placing the 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com in the hosts file but im still getting error 3194 even though cydia has all my shsh blobs? I have also tried making a signed ipsw with ifaith, that works but then gives error 37 and fails. The only way so far has been tu but when i restore to the latest stock without using tu, it works fine. ? Any ideas anyone? I would be highly grateful for any ideas or suggestions.

Correction: I have just now heard that it is for 3GS only. And I am not sure why it has suddenly started to work this way.

Hi i.Annie and thundaa (and anyone else reading),
I think I'm having similar issues to you thundaa, still no solution for me yet though. I'm hoping one of you two can help?
Problem in a nutshell: I have an iPhone 3GS with an iPad baseband (I assume), but I tried updating the firmware to 4.3.5 (I think) which didn't work and I am now stuck in a recovery loop. Sadly, I have no SHSH blobs on Cydia.
Background: I got an iPhone 3GS in September 2009, never jailbreaked it, I kept the firmware up to date etc, works like a charm. In June this year I went to the UK for five weeks (I live in Australia) and before I left made sure all my software was up to date and that everything was backed up. In the UK I decided that a UK sim would be useful, so went to some dodgy shop and asked them if they could unlock it for me (it was locked to an Australian network). They said yes, I said great and handed over my money. What a fool I am.
Symptoms: the phone seemed fine. I noticed the GPS wasn't working a few weeks later in Italy and Switzerland but didn't think too much of it (at the time I had no knowledge of, or experience in, jailbreaking or anything like that, so it certainly didn't raise any flags). When I got back to Australia I plugged my phone into my laptop (a 2006 MacBook which stayed at home) and iTunes backed up my phone (I'm pretty sure) and then asked would I like to update to the most recent software. I can't remember the version number, but I assume it was 4.3.5 (this was about 9 am July 29 Oz time). I said "sure, what a top idea, that's what I always do" and then all hell broke loose.
Recovery Loop: on updating I got the error "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1015)" and thought a cable was loose, or something like that, so tried again. Same thing. And again. I did some reading, and some more, and then more, slowly realising that my phone could well be screwed.
Solutions Tried: I have spent about 8 hours trying to fix the problem, all to no avail. I now know more about iPhones than I ever thought I would (although it's interesting as I'm from an IT background, I had planned on spending that time doing other things!) and in the process I've also added a few more TLAs to my repertoire. I've tried so many things that I'm struggling to even remember what I've done: 4.3.5, 4.3.4, 4.3.3, 4.2.1, 4.1, custom firmware (4.2.1), kicking out of recovery mode with TU, using FixRecovery, nada. I tried forcing 4.1 onto it with the phone in DFU mode (not Pwnage DFU mode, not sure if that makes a difference) and it gets the same 1015 error. Using TU Exit Recovery results in recovery loop again. Not sure if FixRecovery will work. A big hassle is that I don't have any saved SHSH blobs anywhere at all.
A plea for help: does anyone have anything further I can try, or any other suggestions? Or is my phone completely f**ked?
I've tried to be comprehensive in the description of the problem and what I've done to fix it, but my brain is frazzled at the mo so apologies if it doesn't make sense! I'm open to all and any suggestions!
Thanks,
Rich
