ok basically i have now sucessfully downgraded from 4.3 to 4.1 WITHOUT using shsh blobs

im gonna keep this 1 short an simple now, i have an iphone 3GS (sorry i put 4gs by MISTAKE in the last post and got called a n00b for it) now running a jailbroken 4.1 and i want to know is there any way to update it to 4.2.1?

any help will be appreciated.

Wel, if you downgraded that's saying ur shsh was stored possibly without u knowing...so check tiny umbrella and see if 4.2.1 is saved

I believe you can do it by downloading the IOS for 4.2.1 and Shift Clicking the Upgrade Option in iTunes. If you get the dreaded 1013 or 1015 error. I cant remember which one. Just get your phone from the recovery screen to DFU mode, jailbreak with GreenPoison, use Tiny Umbrella to fix recovery and youre on your way to redownloading all your jailbroken apps.

tinyumbrella isnt working, thats y i didnt want to use shsh blobs. basically on cydia its still not showing up with them, and i click start tss server on tinyumbrella but nothing happens except it starts

You wont need the shsh blobs if you do it the way I explained in post #3. Just finished one up that way about a week ago.

Leave Tiny Umbrella off and do the upgrade through iTunes. Only use tiny umbrella to fix the boot. When you restore in itunes it will error and the phone will reboot in recovery mode. Put it in DFU mode and run GreenPoison. Then start Umbrella to fix it and allow it to reboot.

wildmanviper, thats basically how i downgraded i was goin to try that but thought i would ask if any1 else has tried it b4 i go and do it

its ironic, the first thread i made this morning i asked if it was possible to do what you just said to do but got told it wasnt, only i thought make a backup of my friends iphone 4 as he was runnin 4.2.1 an retore my 3gs with it but thats for ur help in just downloading the firmware now

As far as backing up the friends iPhone 4 and restoring your 3GS, it wont be possible. Different IOS and iTunes will throw an exception. If you download the 4.2.1 for 3GS it will work fine. I used iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw on my friends 3GS. Had to use iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw for my iPhone 4.

The one you want is about 401 MB in size. For the iPhone 4 its 624 MB.
