Default Problems with Downgrade-White Screen/ Error 28- Will Apple Know if I send it Back?

I received a refurbished 3gs from apple a few days ago. I have T-mobile, so i just want to jailbreak it and use it as an ipod till the unlock comes out.

While trying to jailbreak it I used RedSnow and used a tethered jailbreak. After trying some things out, I just got the WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH wil error 28 sometimes.

I can not change the firmware. Redsnow doesn't work, GreenP0ison doesn't work, resorting with apple even with the 4.3 firmware doesn't work, I just get the White Screen.

    What can I do?

If i return it with applecare and get a new phone, will Apple know I was trying to jailbreak it?

    Thanks for the help.

Let the battery drain completely (or remove it for at least an hour) then try restoring again. If you have 4.2.1 SHSH restore to that then use greenpoison rc6.1 to jailbreak, stay away from redsnow.

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't want to remove the battery for warranty reasons.

And how can I effectively drain the battery because if i just leave it on the white screen until it dies, does not seem to be working well?

Just leave it for a day or two. Make sure it is completely dead before trying to restore or you will get that error 28.

I have let the phone battery run out.

When I try to upgrade to 4.3, iTunes goes to preparing iphone and then it stays there.

If i use ireb first and then try to restore I get the same thing.

When I use redsnow, I get a white screen again.

    Anything I can try?
    Thanks

Now it's giving me error 1601.. It goes into preparing iphone and then it completely turn the iphone on.

I turn the iphone on again while it is still "preparing iphone" and it just goes through the loop again.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to try and update it on a Mac.

    TODAY

So i tried to upgrade it on a mac to 4.3.
It goes to preparing iphone.... five minutes later I get error 1601.

    Anything I could try?
Should I just return it to apple and hope they don't realize it's jail-broken?

They wont know it is jailbroken if it is in recovery, not to worry.

Just tell them you tried to update it and it gave you errors and wont restore.
