3g - 4.2.1 - BB 5.15

Hi folks,

im having a real difficult time. for about a week ive now been trying to restore my phone.
the guy who sold it to me told me that it had a carrier unlock. i believed him because it was my girlfriends brother and he restored it with itunes and had never jailbroken it before.

i did the JB in december and everything went fine until i wanted to restore the phone back to Original firmware 4.1 (as it was on 4.1 before).

After the restore i was greeted with the bla bla not the original card screen. damn.
since it was a carrier unlocked phone, i was VERY sure to NEVER see this screen on that particular phone. (i have others that do show that screen

)

i did all the steps that seemed necessary. jailbreak. DONE.
Not in this case. still no carrier. one single , lonely feeling bar.
went on to ultrasn0w. nothing.
installed the carrier unlock fix. nothing.

so today i grabbed the phone again and created a custom 4.2.1 firmware using snowbreeze 2.2.1 , then i put it in dfu with snowbreeze/ireb , installed the custom fw through itunes.
greeted with sim locked screen. after unlock one bar. f..k

i then installed cydia with redsnow 0.9.6 rc8 , rebooted, installed ultrasn0w, rebooted (i did unlock the sim everytime). still no carrier.

what am i to do???
does the unlock need the iPad baseband ??
how comes the phone is not carrier unlocked by default anymore ?

Yes, to unlock right now you would need to update to the ipad baseband. Ultrasnow wont work on 5.15 baseband. Be aware if you do that you will lose gps though.

so how can this be that the original carrier unlock got lost ?? i restored to the regular firmware through itunes and after that it should work, but obviously it didnt

hmm im not really dependent on gps, but it would be a mere functionality loss.

isnt there any other option you can think about ??
ive read that using redsn0w 0.9.4 with FW 3.1.2 can hacktivate any other version. so if im getting this correct, i could install my 4.1 and then hacktivate with 0.9.4 and should have my carrier unlocked ? or am i getting this wrong?

It must have just been unlocked with ultrasnow before. A restore will wipe that and update your baseband so that it wont work anymore. Only option now is the ipad baseband update. Redsnow 0.9.4 wont help you, that was just for jailbreaking back on 3.1.2 and 3.1.3.

Or you can wait and see if a unlock for your 5.15 baseband comes out at some point.

ok. but im also having this other issue with my gf's 3gs with ultrasnow and everything and still having the no service/connect/no connection/connection issue and this makes me quite unsure if i should update my personal phone to the ipad baseband. because that would leave me with an iPhone 3G with undowngradable baseband 6.15 and also an iphone 3gs with the same condidtion :/

i dont want to live with my phone connecting to the service every 5minutes and disconnecting when i try to use 3G.

the phone was unlocked, he never jailbroke or anything like that before, it was carrier free and the guy i received the phone from restored it on itunes in front of my eyes , no jailbreak. real itunes deal. so thats why im having a hard time to understand why the unlock went away.

any suggestions.thanks for your replys anyway.your helping out a lot.

what steps would you suggest ??

install my custom (snowbreeze 2.2.1 ) firmware and then redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 and tick cydia AND ipad baseband and after that install ultrasn0w ??

I dunno if you want to wait and see if a better unlock comes out instead of updating to the ipad baseband then if one of your phones is already giving you trouble on it.

If you do decide to do it all you have to do is restore to a regular 4.1 or 4.2.1 and then use redsnow 0.9.6rc8 to install cydia and the ipad baseband. No custom firmware required.

what do you think am i to do with the 3Gs thats havin the wibble wobble connect ??

Not sure, thought it might be because your carrier doesnt support the 3G on the iPhone (Tmobile in the US for example) but that's not the case with you.

no its definetly not the case here.
thats why im saying, its so not normal.
my gf brother restored it on his computer using regular itunes, the phone had never seen any software other than itunes and was first ever to bring in contact with anything regarding jailbreak, by me.

the only thing ive done to the phone is
- install redsn0w 0.9.6b5 (it was in december)
- restore two weeks ago

and thats when it started acting all weird as if the unlock wasnt real. im kinda shocked, because i think my phone had everything i wanted and i would have never restored anmd wanted to renew everything if i new that the unlock would/could vanish.

im installing 4.1 and after that ipad baseband with redsnow rc8

Make sure to restore to a regular 4.1 and not a snowbreeze firmware. See if iTunes will activate the iPhone first with your sim in before using redsnow just in case.

yeah im installing the regular 4.1
but im sure, the phone wont get activated because the one im using is a locked t mobile phone

. ive tried to jailbreak it the way i did with my own, but it didnt work and did not successfully get a carrier signal. so with this phone there is only the oppurtunity to install the baseband and see what happens.

but im still hustling to get the 3Gs from my girlfriend to run, WITH service

i havent tried the new greenpoison though.
today was dedicated to my phone and i had to find out the hard way (lookin at the readme...) that 3G is not supported , so i think if GP works, my GF will have her phone working back again tomorrow.

ok ive updated to the ipad baseband unlocked the sim and *drumroll* no service, just a regular single lonely signal bar that actually that represents no signal

thats what im doing right now.
i just wanted to whine a little bit

O M F G !!!!!!!!!!

i installed ultrasn0w. rebooted.
then i took out the sim card.turned off 3g. turned on flight mode.
rebooted the phone. inserted the card. took it out again.
turned on airplane mode off / on.
inserted the card again, put in my pin and now im runnin on 5 bars o2 signal cot damn

.

and if you think the on off airplane mode stuff is idioty

. i have found such instructions on many sites. since my own techniques havent worked for weeks, i think this is a good way to trick the phone, even though the developer inside me tells me, TOTAL BULL....

ok so heres what ill do.
ill use the tmobile now JB to o2 phone for a week and wait how it works. if it really goes well i think im updating my personal phone. if it still gives me the wibble wobble connection, i think im walking round with an expensive ipod touch until a decent solution comes out.

ill try the 3Gs tomorrow and tell yall.

just to let you know.

im at work and ever since the alarm got off in the morning. ive been stressing the phone. ive been turnin off 3G and Edge like crazy. putting the phone in airplane mode and out rebooting, taking out the sim. all kinds of crazy stuff that would send my GFs 3Gs into one bar or search mode.
Eventhough the signal got lost it managed to come back in under 30seconds, which represents normal network carrier breakdowns or just no service because of really NO service

.

Cant wait to reach house to break the 3Gs.

my itune keep saying it is not compatible firmware and all that bs even with official firmware d/l from iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download

Itunes will give you that error either because you have the wrong firmware for your device or the firmware you have doesnt have a .ipsw extension. What device do you have and what is the filename of the firmware?

Is it true that you can't unlock 4.2.1 with the updated baseband?
Except the only option is to use snowbreeze 2.2.1 with the custom firmware?
If so, I've tried the snowbreeze, but after I go into DFU and tried to install the custom firmware, I get the "the firmware is not compatible"
Anyone else having or had this problem? I need tips and pointers. Very lost.

However! Just a hunch... is A1241 Iphone 3GS or Iphone 3G?

I swear if it comes out Iphone 3G I am going to make that ebay seller pay.
