Jailbreaking question

Hi guys

I'm new to the jailbreaking scene and would just like some opinions. I currently have an iPhone 3GS with os. 4.1. I have not jailbroken yet.

I have read some guides but a lot assume the phone has been jailbroken before. Can anyone give me any pointers?

I have just downloaded limewire firmware restore.ipsw but I'm now wondering if this is the right way to go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can use limera1n/greenpoison/redsnow 0.9.6rc8 to jailbreak 4.1. You can find guides on iclarified.com.

Not sure what you mean by a limewire firmware restore though.

I would update via iTunes to iOS 4.2.1 and then run Greenpois0n. x98's answer is correct, but it can be a pain to find the correct version of greenpois0n for 4.1.

Sorry I meant limera1n restore ipsw but I've just realised I haven't got any shsh blobs saved so it is pointless.

Any reason for green poison over limera1n? Or is that just like a playstation or xbox debate?

If you go to 4.2.1 limera1n won't work, but greenpoison will.

Still dont know what you mean by limera1n restore ipsw. Limera1n is a program, it doesnt require a .ipsw. You must be talking about a custom firmware made with pwnage tool or snowbreeze.
