Downgrading 3g

I was givin a 3g with baseband 02.28.00 at ios 4.2.1. I want to restore the phone. In tiny umbrellas it show 4.0 up to 4.2b3. Which ios version should I go to. If I do go to say 4.0 will I still preserve my baseband?

Create a custom firmware using pwnage tool (Mac) or Sn0wbreeze (win). Restore your device to the custom firmware. It will not update your baseband.

You will have to use a custom firmware to restore to anything 4.1 and above.

You won't want to take it to 4.0, 4.0.1, or 4.0.2, it is awful on an iPhone 3G.

If you want to restore, restore to either 4.2.1 or 3.1.3. You'll need SHSHs if you want 4.1.

Remember to use a custom fw on 4.1 or 4.2.1. 3.1.3 you can restore to stock and still be able to unlock.

I really want to jailbreak my iPhone 3G but I can't because I have 4.2.1 an jailbreakme.com can't do the newest version and I can't use the computer.

Then you'd have to not jailbreak. You could downgrade the firmware to 4.0.1 or below if you have SHSHs, but then you'd need a computer for that too.

Im running 4.1 W/O multitasking on my 3g and it runs quite nicely, id sugest this.

You will need CFW to do so though, and in that fact you'll have to enter PWNdfu mode from Redsn0w when DG' to CFW.
