3g problem

Hi

I am trying to jailbreak an iPhone 3g. I have tried greenpois0n, and it won't recognize the phone going into dfu, so i decided to try and find 4.1 firmware so that i can use limerain. however anything that i have found are .dmg files. i have read that there is a way to convert them to .ipsw, but i have had no success. pls help. i have jailbroken touches and my iphone 4 with little problems, but this 3g is stumping me. it is currently restored with 4.2.1 from itunes, but greenpoison won't work for it. is there a way to downgrade it (or convert the dmg files to ipsw) so i can use another program to break it.

Felixbruns.com( goggle it) that's where u find the ipsw for apple idevices.. For 4.2.1 try greenpoison RC5 .untethered.. If after u j.b u have no Loader icon on ur phone run Redsnow 0.9.6b6 and install Cydia only.. Hope that helped.. After u download the firmware it will be a .zip file.u must rename it to .ipsw. Make sure u aren't hiding ur folder name. U must go to start menu>control panel> in the search command type folder > uncheck hide folder info

If your iTunes don't recognize your phone in DFU than you should reinstall previous version of iTunes and try to put your iPhone into Dfu. It usually works for me. It's a little bit pain but it's manageable. Also what works for me sometimes is using Redsn0w to try to put the iPhone into DFU. System recognizes it and does it automatically. To me 3G is the easiest iPhone to fix software-wise and hardware but we are talking software-sticking to the topic.

Its a 3G so just use redsn0w (newest version) to JB on 4.2.1, because its a 3G its old bootrom therefor untethered 4.2.1.
