Noob question??

I bought my phone in back in sept. When I got it my phone my friend told me about jailbreaking so I jailbroke my phone. I didn't no what I was getting into. But I have been doing some research. But anyways i jailbroke my phone from limera4n.com. I'm running on 4.1 firmware and want to upgrade to 4.2. But I never saved my shsh blob or used tiny umbrella. I do c shsh 4.1 and 4.2 in Cydia. So I might have saved it but I'm not really sure. What do I do? Do I have to downgrade before I upgrade? And is it possible to still save my shsh or do I have to wait for 4.3?

Upgrade via iTunes. I always restore to a new firmware and then jailbreak with the latest greenpoison.

I thought if I upgrade through iTunes I will lose my jailbreak.

You'll lose your jailbreak every time you restore whether it be a downgrade or upgrade.

You'll just have to do the jb again. If you don't need to unlock, upgrade in iTunes and jb with Greenpois0n or Redsn0w 0.9.6rc8

Thank I just wanted to make sure before I did any thing. I keep reading everywhere that I will lose my jailbreak.

You're basically resetting the phone to factory settings, so yes it's confirmed you'll lose the jb

You will lose your unlock if you upgrade. You wont lose it if you downgrade

If you want to preserve your unlock, build a custom IPSW using Sn0wbreeze (get it at ih8sn0w.com) and use that to restore. That way the baseband wont be updated, while you can have the IPSW built to have Cydia+ultrasn0w pre-installed, meaning you wont have to jailbreak each time you restore to that IPSW, it will be PRE-jailbroken from the restore, and automatically activated and unlocked

edit: I recommend restoring to newer firmwares rather than updating, as updating leaves all the unecessary jailbreak files on your device for nothing. Plus it's just an opportunity to clean out your device

I unlocked my iPhone running 4.1 firmware using ultrasnow from repo666. But after installing it I had no carrier or service. So what I did was went into Cydia to uninstall it and my phone worked again. But repo666 is still in sources. After that I really didn't f$$k with it again. Do u know what happened? Should I try ultrasnow again?

What I'm saying is I don't really know if it's unlocked or not. That y I was so worried about upgrading through itunes
