I have been looking for a solution to this problem since Christmas. I'm hoping maybe someone out there knows something I have not found yet...

I had always previously had success with jailbreaking and unlocking my 3g, so I figured this would also be no problem...

Near Christmas time this year I picked up a used 3GS running 4.1.2 factory restored, to replace my slowly dieing 3g that unfortunately took a 'green tea bath' in the cup holder of my car one night (it's a longer story than u want to know...). Anyway, I am living in China now so I need to unlock. I am not sure what the baseband was at the time before I attempted the jailbreak and unlock with redsn0w 9.6b6, but read about using the unlockable 06.15.00 ipad baseband and decided this was my only option.

So after reading through the directions I went ahead with the process of redsn0w 9.6b6. In the beginning it asked if I was old bootrom or new bootrom, and if I selected wrong I could possibly have to do a full restore. According to my iPhone SN# I should have been old bootrom (so I thought), well, turns out I was actually new bootrom and the entire process was botched...

At this point things were not working out correctly, so I decided I would have to do the restore as explained in the redsn0w warning. So I connected to tinyumbrella to save my SHSH's (which I should have done before my first attempt at redsn0w, which I know now) but anyway, tinyumbrella showed that I was still on 4.1, but I could only save my 4.2 SHSH.

looking back I had already upgraded the BB to 06.15.00, but not successfully and apparently it bricked my comm radio in the phone, because I barrowed a friend's at&t sim and the signal bars didnt show anything except one tall bar on the first tick and all the others flat, and it couldn't make calls or download data.

So the next step I thought I was still needing to do was use SAM to do the hactivation and unlock, but in my normal settings menu there is no option for wi-fi. It just disappeared... (also I assume from a bricked comm radio??)

With no options left I finally had to do a custom firmware restore with 4.2.1 as nothing else would work since my phone is showing it has the ipad baseband (even though none of the comm works), and the 4.2.1 is the only SHSH I have saved...

The problem that still remains now is that after the custom restore, there is still no wi-fi option on the settings menu, and even with the at&t sim I cannot make calls or download data.

Is there any possible way to fix this? Even if I am stuck on the 06.15.00 BB I could live with that for now, but after several attempts to re-flash the BB, both when I was still on 4.1.2 and after I moved to 4.2.1 every attempt has been unsuccessful.

Any advice that can fix this issue would be hugely appreciated (because for the last month and a half it has only been good for an ipod touch; and with no wi-fi at that...) Thankx!!
