Iphone 3Gs stuck on recovery mode, error 1015, and a lot of problems.

okay so i have an unlocked iphone and i tried to upgrade it with itunes now its stuck in recovery mode now i wanna punch myself in the face repeatedly. i used redsnow and tried installing the 4.3.3 firmware went thru the process and im stuck in recovery. i used greenpoison or whtever its called to install the 4.2.1 firmware and that program didnt even work so im just baffeled and in dire need of assistance

where do i access the custom 4.2.1 firmware i can only find three upgraded versions?.

Thanks for the replies all. I solved my problem with a CFW of 4.2.1 I made with sn0wbreeze, without the iPad BB. Put it in DFU with redsn0w first.

I guess I am facing a similar problem. So mine is (or I would say was) a 3G jailbroken phone running on 4.1.. Accidentally hit upgrade on itunes. Phone not stuck in recovery mode. Just showing the screen with the cord and asking to connect to itunes. tried a few solutions but the iphone does seem to even budge. Can you guide me the way out please...

Hey I was finally able to get the iphone started. What I did was made a CFM with snowbreeze and just followed the instructions on snowbreeze.. The phone finally started DDD
But it seems the phone is not activated as the sim card I have on the phone is not getting any range..
How can I activate the phone now??

After trying everything this worked for me. This will Un-brick iphone. And restore to baseband 6.15.00 baseband.
First download these 2 files:
iReb r4 link: Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: iREB-r4.zip
Custom 4.1 firmware: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

1) Make sure c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts has this on the bottom:
# 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
# 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
2) Right click on iReb r4 and Run As Administrator, click on iphone 3gs. Follow instruction to put the phone in Pawned DFU mode.
3) Open itunes and hold SHIFT button and choose the custome firmware you downloaded.

Hey Guys, I just finished fixing this error, basically this error is due to updating your phone with Itunes after the baseband had been downgraded to 00.6.15 (the ipad version) you need to download redsn0w 0.9.6b4 (this one worked for me). and you need to download the "IPhone 3G custom firmaware 4.2.1 8C148.ipsw" and the "IPhone 1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw".

1- run rednsn0w
2- pick the IPhone 1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw firmware file
3- uncheck everything except enter in pwnd DFU mode right now (fallow the instruction about how to turn off and on and how to release the power and home button).
4- once you finish this, open Itunes. I tunes will tell you that itunes has detected a iphone in recovery hold down the shift button. it will open an box to choose a file, chose the IPhone 3G custom firmaware 4.2.1 8C148.ipsw file. it will take about 10 minutes to restore without errors.
5- once finished, your phone will have lost the unlock, so run redsnow again, chose the IPhone 1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw, and install cydia. fallow exactly the instruction to jailbreak. it will take about 5 to 10 minutes. Once done, install ultrasn0w in cydia (ultrasn0w.com), and enjoy your jailbroken and unlocked IPhone 3G. if you have bought another Iphone give this one to your mother or sister, or girlfriend, it still runs like a charm.
P.S: do not update the software from itunes because you'll run through the same problems again.

Did you guys download these files for iPhone 3GS or 3G ?

it got my phone to at least work again very sluggish and freezes up occaionally

Just as a bump..

If anyone else is still having this problem as I did...

Use redsn0w and boot to pwnd DFU the load iTunes up and restore a custom firmware.

Worked like a champ the first time for me.

Hey folks

I tried to use Snowbreeze 2.2.1 to create custom firmware 4.2.1 for my iphone 3G. Everything restores just fine but when I select international keyboard for Chinese and go to SMS or any other application to write in Chinese, the app just crashes when I try to change the keyboard.

I then tried to use Snowbreeze 2.1 to install custom firmware 4.1. Again everything installs but when the phone boots, it hands at the Snowbreeze logo. Can someone help me please? I am willing to use either firmware version. But I do need to type chinese!!

try signing in as admin and try to open as admin notepad copy and paste everything from the host file and save as host.file hope that helps

When I open redsnow and click on next it tells me to hold the power button for 3 secs but moving the cursor at this tim does not make the apple logo freeze it just keeps going to the next step telling me to hold both buttons down and then remove the power button etc. What am I doing wrong?

It could be due to many reasons, at what firmware and what version of red snow did you use ?

I dowloaded the custom firmware that Krzyprk mentioned above and finally managed to get the phone out of restore mode and did the jailbreak and unlock again and it seems to be working fine now.

I'm so glad I found this site and that so many of you are willing to share your knowledge. I was about ready to throw the phone away and buy my daughter a new cheap mobile. My daughter is happy to have her smart phone back too.

My sister bought this unlocked 3Gs iphone from craiglist. it was fully functional when she tested it, she tried to turned the iphone back, after she got back home, it went to recovery mode loop. Now she wants me to fix it, I have tried a lot of method in the forum yet I cannot solve this problem.

Okay, here is the condition I am experiencing:
1. no SHSH file on the iphone.
2. Cannot kick the phone out from the recovery mode.
3. Do not know what is the baseband of the iphone.
4. Do not know how did seller of this iphone unlocked the phone.
5. Do not know what is firmware version of the iphone used.
6. Cannot access the cydia on the iphone because it's on a recovery mode and i cannot kick out from the recovery mode.
7. Cannot update the phone, error 1015
8. Cannot downgrade the phone, got error that said this phone is incompatible.
9. iTunes is at the newest version, version 10.1.2
10. I have tried redsn0w, pawnage, greenpois0n, and other methods on this forum.

Please help me solved this problem.
