@shitake83 Tiny umbrella wont be able to read it if it isnt booted up. You need to find out your ecid and put it into tiny umbrella manually, then you can save your SHSH.

You do have SHSH if you are able to restore to 4.1.



To make a custom 4.2.1 with pwnage tool you have to see update 3 on the dev team blog. There is a bundel that you have to put into pwnage tool to be able to make a custom 4.2.1 without getting that wrong bundle error. You will still need to use redsnow to boot tethered everytime though. Do not choose install ipad baseband anymore if you have ever done.

ive downloaded this bundle too but dont know how to put into pwnagetool (iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a.bundle) i think i tried before and the error msg was wrong extension .

Ya, just wanted to make sure that you activate the new one first, as that is a definite way of getting no service on a official carrier.

Looks and soundsno1 has any idea on how to get out of this recovery loop. Dman Apple i think they found a way to screw us over. think i will just get a EVO if i can;'t jailbreak this with greepois0n tonight. cause it is gettign redicoulous now

Did you enter pwned dfu first with redsnow before you tried installing the custom firmware?

i may sound silly but what would my next step be ??

@rebbychebby: Download snowbreeze 2.1 , with this tool you can create a custom firmware of your desired FW , i also created mine with this one. ( i downloaded the ipsw from apple ).
then you have to put your phone into pwned dfu mode. i used resn0w for this case.
after that, youre able to install the custom firmware through itunes, with the shift + click on restore.
it worked for me, but now im stuck at the dfu loop i hope x98car has a trick for me with the shsh's

Try restoring to a custom 4.1 and see if you get an error or not.

he will get the error i have tried it all night last night....best is to try remove the host.umbrella and add saurk server in host file and try as he can't get out of the loop anyhow for now might as well try it to see if it works

Hosts.umbrella is just a saved version of your original hosts file before tiny umbrella was used. It doesn't actually do anything unless you run umbrella.

hey folks.

im really really happy that my phone is NOT bricked.
i finally managed to get out of the dfu loop like this

1. download 'usbview'

2. start usbview: check your iPhone, on the right side there is some information about your phone. look for ECID and copy it. (iPhone must be plugged into pc/mac)

3. save the SHSH of your phone (it will take a little bit: if you check 'log' you can see some information to which version your phone can be restored)

4. (after youve done it the phone will show normally in TU , yes i know it wasnt there before if its in dfu loop)
select your phone in TU and click exit recovery.
your phone will restart to itunes connect screen.

--- YOURE OUT OF THE DFU LOOP ----

5. i used redsn0w to start in dfu mode again

6. i installed the original firmware 4.2.1 , it said error 1015 after that

7. i run redsn0w on the phone

8. now im stuck at the connect to itunes again

installed CUSTOM FW 4.1 through itunes and i am back to the itunes connect screen.

what can i do now ??

im really happy im actually seeing the device work, rather than having the screen black or the apple logo on and the phone beeping every 10 seconds

I dont know how you are able to restore to 4.1 without SHSH. Shouldnt be possible. Do you know what bootrom your 3GS is?

As for what you can do now, if you are on the emergency call screen you can either use a official sim to activate with in itunes or use redsnow to activate it. Just run redsnow, point it to the regular 4.1 firmware and do not choose any of the options.

No I dont enable it because it makes the phone too slow but you may be able to enable it with something like ztoggle or myos. Not sure if they are compatible with 4.2.1 yet though.

im not on emergency call. im on itunes connect screen and itunes pops up and wants me to restore, i have restored in this mode with custom 4.1 , orig. 4.2.1 , custom 4.2.1
