Can someone please give me step by step instructions on how to downgrade an iPhone 3gs from 4.1 to 4.0???

Do you have 4.0 shsh blogs, if you don't have it , then you can't. Why do you want to downgrade ? You can jailbreak at 4.1

You can jailbreak with GreenPoison at 4.1 , very easy

You don't need instructions, just follow the onscreen instructions or watch youtube if you feel more comfortable that way.

I hope you are with official carrier, if you are not, then you cannot unlock it anyway at 4.1

I've tried greenpoison several times now and everytime it says jailbreak failed, quit(Restart to Retry)
