3GS on 3.1.3 with 5.12.01 modem FW

A friend of mine is wanting to buy a 3GS from craigslist and it seems the phone is a 3GS, on 3.1.3 with modem FW at 5.12.01.

I tried to get him to find out the bootROM but I dont think the seller gave him that info, or didn't know how to get it. Unfortunately I don't know if this phone was jailbroken before or anything like that.

Is there any way to jailbreak and then unlock a system like this?

Yes, Spirit and ultrasn0w. But you won't be able to jailbreak iOS4 on it until a new jailbreak has been released.

Yes - I believe I have the same version of phone and SW as you have listed.

Incidentally, I bet the iBoot version will be 359.3.2

What if he downgrades to 3.1.2 jb with pwnagetool, or redsnow blackra1n (unsure
of 3.1.2s best jb tool) will that downgrade the bootrom too?

If the 3.1.2 SHSH file was saved, yes, but judging from the first post, the seller doesn't know anything about jailbreaking so it's highly unlikely that they're stored.

No, the bootrom cannot be up- or downgraded, it will always be the same.
