where can I get a custom made ipsw? I'm on windows, and I already upgrading my phone to 4.0. I'm willing to downgrade etc, but I need that firmware before i can do anything

Cheers One, i used iRecovery in cmd but the result was the same.

Once i got it out of the recovery look Redsn0w worked for the jailbreak. Curiously BlackRain still doesnt, but either way your method is sound.

I'm currently rocking a 3.1.2 Jailbreak through Redsn0w which SHOULD be ok for a direct upgrade to a pwned 4.0 IPSW when one comes available to download (I dont have a mac)

I'm on windows7 and can't manage to change the extension from .zip to .ipsw and have it show up not in folder/zip form.

I'm getting a 3194 error. Any ideas?

I got 3194 on my PC, but not on my laptop. The primary difference between them was iTunes version. The PC using the latest 9.2 and the laptop using 8.2.

Unsure if thats the cause but its my best guess.

As for your .zip/.ipsw issue you may need to tell Windows to stop hiding extensions.

Open a Windows explorer window, press Alt. You should see the old style File Edit View etc buttons appear.

Goto tools, folder options and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

to the ones with the extension problem. Internet Explorer changes the extension, just download and install google chrome or Mozilla Firefox and download the firmware again, this will save it with the right .ipsw extension

Also, the extension just needs to be corrected in the name, the file is still the same.

Got the extensions changed after a quick google search, but no dice on the restore. Gonna try it on another laptop.

No matter what Firmware you are on, even 4.0 official, just go to the MMI downloads section and get

3.1.2 Firmware ModMyi Forums - Downloads - iPhone 3GS 3.1.2

Blackra1n RC3 ModMyi Forums - Downloads - blackra1n RC3

Point your hosts file to the Cydia Server where your 3.1.2 SHSH blobs are stored.

Restore to 3.1.2 EVEN IF you are on 4.0 official.

Run Blackra1n to jailbreak 3.1.2.

Now you are jailbroken again, simply upgrade to a Pwned 4.0 FW.


I JUST DID IT, it works PERFECTLY. I was on unpwned 4.0 official from where I upgraded last night

if you are jailbroken and you can restart your 3G[S] without any issues or having to run blackra1n everytime you turn off and back on the phone, then you have the old bootrom
