Follow this link: iH8sn0w.com | Jailbreak your iPod touches and iPhones
And download "Forcast" it will tell you.

i do believe, you go settings > general > about.

Then scroll down to Modem Firmware and it tells you.

    like
    ...
    Bluetooth Balh
    IMEI Blah Blah Blah
ICCID Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah
    Modem Firmware 05.12.01

The only way to tell with refurbs is by looking at the iBoot version and you'll need the device in hand and connected to a computer to do this.

f0recast can't help you with this.

i just got a replacement 32gb black 3gs this past weekend and its the old bootrom and model MB week 012

my gf had hers replaced the on same day too but and is also a MB model but a new bootrom week 014!

use usbview to check the bootrom version after putting your phone into DFU mode
