    Default 3Gs running 3.0.1
    Hi

This will be my first jailbreak. I dont think I have been reading the right posts on modmyi for my phone. Searching this forum for 3.0.1, it said there were no posts with my search terms...

    specs

    macbook pro running snowleopard.

    3GS 3.0.1 // 04.26.08
    I have iTunes 9.0.3
I'm staying with ATT, don't need to unlock.

Do I just run redsnow 0.9.2?

I'm really confused about the signature server verification.
Do I just run Cyndia and click make my like easier? OR do I have to go through the steps to host my own server?

    Help!

If you're just looking to stay on 3.0.1 then you can use redsn0w 0.9.2

You don't need to worry about having the firmware signed as you're not doing a restore, so there's no need to edit any files.

You can download redsn0w from the dev team's official site here: redsn0w 0.9.2 [iPhone Dev Team]

When redsn0w asks if you have the new bootrom, be sure to tell it 'no'.

Also as you mentioned, when you're done, be sure to run Cydia and click the 'Make my life easier' button.

    Thank You for your help...

Would you stay with 3.0.1? or go to 3.1.2?

If you haven't run into any apps that requires you to be 3.1.2+, you should just stay at 3.0.1 - there's no real benefit to upgrading.

If you do want to upgrade at some point, be sure to use a custom firmware and restore to that. They're pre-jailbroken and they preserve your baseband. Another good thing is that they also don't require SHSH signing so you can go to any firmware version you want. Pwnagetool is the best option when making a CFW and it's a mac-only tool so you're in luck in that department, in case you do decide to upgrade.

While blackra1n can jailbreak 3.0.1, it was made with 3.1+ in mind, so in this case, redsn0w is better. For a phone on 3.1+, I'd still use redsn0w though, as the dev team's tool are generally better and more thoroughly tested.

3.1 activates MMS so if you're on ATT and want to picture message you'll need to update to 3.1.2.
