restore iphone 3g 5.11.07 running on 3.1.2 without updating to 3.1.3

i have a jailbroken and unlocked iphone 3g 5.11.07 running on 3.1.2 with an att sim and i want to restore it and then jailbreak/unlock it again. Do I need to download a custom firmware to do a shift+restore? does the phone have to be in DFU mode to do the restore? im so confused

At this current time, it isn't possible to restore your iPhone without updating to 3.1.3 . Even with shift restore using 3.1.2 software, iTunes will give you an error. Apple is no longer validating it. Wait for a fix with the new update.If you do update to 3.1.3, you won't be able to JB it again.

I understand and wont restore/update until a fix is found. im still confused about the custom firmware downloads but as you said, it is irrelevant for now. Thanks

If you have the SHSH on file with Cydia/Saurik - then you can restore. Plenty of threads both here and on the web these days how to.

If you do NOT have the SHSH on file then you are stuck and have to use 3.1.3 and wait until an updated JB is out.

If you don't know what SHSH...well... then you are stuck as you don't have the SHSH on file - then use the time until the new JB is out to do some reading so you are prepared for the next FW "upgrade" by Apple.

Thanks, but I decided not to restore at this time. I have another question though, is it alright if I update my itunes 9.0.2 to 9.0.3 even though i have a jailbroken/unlocked iphone? would it ruin anything? Thanks again

I got Iphone 3 GS with 3.1.2. Tried to jailbreak with blackra1n and messed up. I- tune takes it to recovery mode. If I run blackra1n its says "jail-broken" without no ICON of blackra1n . Looks like I am stuck. Can some one help me to fix ?

Are you sure you're not just having a tethered jailbreak? Try running the jailbreak program you used again while you're on the recovery screen.

Any fix for the bugs of the blackrain unlock? I am talking about the wifi and gps problems? The pushgps fix is not a good fix for the gps. By reseting the network settings to fix the wifi I need to switch off the iphone for several hours so it can boot. If I dont leave it switched off it remains on the apple screen and keeps restarting.

iPhone 3G 3.1.2 and its stuck at the Apple boot screen. I cant restore without going to 3.1.3 and when i try running blackra1n, it seems to JB again but then freezes at the screen with geo's face! I am kinda freaking out....wtf am I supposed to do? I can't even SSH into the phone.

I was able to restore my 3G to 3.1.2 using this method, not sure if it works for 3GS but title seems to indicate that it does.

check my thread. if u got old boot u can jailbreak ur iphone with custom. i got thread on all this and custom firmware link. send me PM. those that say u cant restore to 3.1.2 again u can. custom 3.1.2 and old boot. all you need! new boot will not work for you.

Don't unzip, just rename .zip to .ipsw ( this is the cube like firmware )
