iphone 3GS jailbreaking Issues
I just bought a iphone 3GS 16GB this week and i have been trying to jailbreak this iphone and what happens is this:
I have the updated FirmWare 3.1.2 iphone 3GS, and I ran blackra1n-RC3. It jailbreaks it and no problems. But if i reboot the device again, it stucks on the “connect to itunes” screen. It doesnt reboot, so i have to restore it again. I tried it a lot of times, restoring, rebooting and jailbreaking. Same problem all the time. I am using Windows 7 and I also tried in on windows xp and vista still the same problem.
Anyone can Help with this Issue. Anyone else having the same issue. ????? Is there way way SSH into the iphone and remove some settings so this works.....????
What do i do so it will restart without any problems after Jailbreaking.

It sounds like you have what is called a tethered jailbreak.
When you've run blackra1n and the phone reboots and gets stuck on the 'Connect to iTunes'-logo, simply run blackra1n again. That should make the phone boot up normally and your phone will be jailbroken.

i did reboot and ran blackra1n again. but the third time it jus stucks on the geo hot splash screen.. and does not go on.. so running the balckra1n again and again doesnt help..
What i found out is that the newer iphone 3GS comes with the new bootrom that has not been jailbreaked yet.. so what i m looking for is the jailbreak for the newer iphone3GS, which apparently is not out yet... i think anyone know if it is out for the newer iphone 3GS with bootrom serial # xxx44.... and above.

When you run blackra1n from the connect to iTunes screen, it can take as long as a minute or so for the phone to fully boot up.

Subscribed for info.
I'm having the same issue with a friends' 3G[s]
I'm going to try blackra1n again when the "connect to iTunes" screen comes up like is recommended in here.
Just tried it 3 or 4 times. Ran Blackra1n twice, then had to reboot the phone after installing SBSettings, and every time the phone turns off or reboots, the "connect to iTunes" screen comes up. I can run blackra1n when that screen comes up, and the phone will come back on as jailbroken, but then every time the phone is powered down or rebooted, it does the same thing again. Obviously this will not work, because I cannot run blackra1n every time the phone has to be rebooted or powered down...
Any ideas on this? Please help!Last edited by LanCo Rider; 12-13-2009 at 01:31 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Yea, that's kind of what I figured out after reading some other threads about this. The only reason it stinks is because I was doing it for my friend who does not have net access at his house, so he's have to bring it to my place whenever he installs a new program that requires a re-boot.
Does anyone know why these newer 3G[S] models require this tethered jailbreak? Is there anything that is being worked on that will eliminate the need to run blackra1n upon reboot each time?
Thank you for your help.

It's because of the new iBoot on these phones that checks the validity of the installed firmware as the phone boots. He doesn't need net access to reboot the phone. He only needs to run Blackra1n from the "connect to iTunes" screen for it to complete the boot.

does this tethered jailbreak issue only effect 3Gs models? I'm thinking of buying a second hand 3g and need to unlock it. Will i be ok with Blackra1n and will I not need to be tethered to jailbreak?

I have waited at the gehot splash screen for a reboot for half an hour without it rebooting. If it were as easy as just connecting and hitting make it rain for me, I would have no problems. Should i upgrade itunes. I havent in awhile because I remember one time saying not to so you could do custom ipcc files which I needed at one point.

My fix for geohot stuck screen
I was having the "geohot splash screen stuck" problem. After restoring with a fresh 3.1.2 in itunes I changed the screenlock setting to never and I no longer have the geohot stuck issue. It simply takes longer than my screen was set to lock and that was screwing up the process. Hope this could work for you. Takes about 20-30 seconds total. I simply run Blackra1n once when the itunes recovery mode first shows up and let it do its work and all is good.
