3G[S] 3.1.2 JailBroke with BlackRa1n - Service Issue

I'm new to the forum, and I have used the search and didn't come up with anything, ive also searched around google and unfortunately haven't come up with any leads so I thought I would post.

I jailbroke my phone with BlackRa1n though the first time I tried it hung on the geohot splash screen and never advanced, so I put it in DFU and restored a fresh 3.1.2 on it. I then tried black ra1n again and this time it seemed to work fine. I ran black snow to unlock the phone but as I didn't see anythign that would confirm this worked I ran it again, and just at that point 'assumed' it had worked, later I got a tmobile card from a friend and confirmed that it did in fact work.(I also had installed both cydia and rock from the black ra1n app)

The following happened before I installed anything from rock/cydia. Though I did end up installing intelli-screen(trial) winterboard, and some winterboard themes prior to the full on lock that i mention in the next paragraph.

After the jailbreaking process I started to have issues I would be doing anything from nothing, to surfing the net, app store, or even making a phone call (typically this only happened when trying to dial, it never happened in the middle of a phone call) and the os would lock up for 10-20 seconds then the att service and bars would drop to no service, stay in no service for 10-15 seconds then come back up in 3g (and its not like i was on the edge of service, this would happen when i'm in an area that always has full bars).

So i was dealing with the dropping service until sunday, I was trying to make a call and it did the same thing, though this time when it was in no service I tried clicking on other applications and the phone was extremely slow to respond, so I held home and sleep/wake to reboot, it locked on the apple logo of death. I put it into DFU and ran black ra1n and it seemed to have fixed it. Working fine and NO os locks/service drops! I thought it was fixed, but then about 5 hours later when trying to make a call same thing happened, locked and service dropped then this time I tried to put it into airplane mode (that worked) but when I tried to pull it out of airplane mode it locked at the gui and didn't come out of it, so I tried restarting again and same thing apple logo of death.

This time i put it into DFU mode and simply restored 3.1.2 from itunes. It ran fine over night, and today so far so good, I hit it again with Black Ra1n to see if I would start having the same issues but basically i'm just trying to see if anyone else has had this specific problem? Or has heard of it.

I will post again in a day or so to add whether or not i'm still having these issues, in the mean time I would love to hear anyones input on this!

I have the same phone and ever since i installed blackra1n and unlock I get dropped calls every call. I thought I would redo my phone and just blackra1n and not unlock, since i have att, and it still does it. I kinda wish I stayed at 3.0...lol

1. First item.. I'm not happy with your choice of user name, lol.
2. If you're using on AT&T you should not unlock..
3. Avoid the use of intelliscreen altogether until you figure out your issue.

Anyways, I had unlocked it because I am moving to China and will need to use a different sim card. Although that is a good point, I have restored the phone to 3.1.2 and re-ran BlackRain but have NOT ran black snow. So far so good.

I will also not run intelliscreen until i'm confident the phone is stable then I may try it.

In regards to unlocking the phone if you are on ATT, in earlier versions of the unlock i know this was possible as a friend of mine would use both ATT and TMobile, so was this just an assumption or is there something you know/read somewhere that is an issue with trying to dual run an iphone using blackra1n?

I'm have the same exact issue....Sometimes I can use Safari and sometimes when I start surfing it resets. It will reset during calls or when I get a call. I'm trying to downgrade to 3.0 now but I get stuck in the Itunes dfu mode and irecovery isn't real easy to use(for me) I don't have blacksn0w installed and it still does it. I think it's blackra1n personally. Oh and the battery drain is like 1% every 2 minutes without surfing.

Ok, so after I reinstalled a fresh Apple Original 3.1.2 and re-ran Black Ra1n I have had no issues yet. I have not installed cydia/rock or ran Black Snow.

I'm wondering if its possible to have a 'bad install' of black ra1n. If that was my issue then it appears to have cleared up since I reinstalled a fresh 3.1.2 and re-ran black ra1n. I will be running black snow later today to see if that puts me back into the same boat of dropping service, if it does then what the other poseidon wrote about not unlocking your phone if you are going to stay on att would be true based on my findings. I will update later today or tomorrow.

This seems to be the issue, thanks Poseidon79! I put 3.1.2 back on and jailbroke and let it run for a day and a half or so, no issues, I ran black snow and within 4 hours had a drop in service. So I reverted back to 3.1.2 and jailbroke once more with Black Ra1n. Everything has been fine since then with one question:

PhoneGuy982 mentioned his battery life drains quickly since the BlackRa1n jailbreak, and after he pointed that out I'm starting to notice it as well, but not just battery draining, but recharging as well, I plugged in my phone and within a few minutes it was at 50% (I was at 7% when i plugged it in) seemed kind of fast, anyone know of any inaccuracies with the percentage indicator after unlocking with Black Ra1n?

I've been having the exact same problem since jailbreaking/unlocking a couple of weeks ago.

Would you recommend just performing a factory firmware reset and then running Black Ra1n again?

Did you unlock your phone and stay on AT&T? If so yes, if you did not unlock your phone you can attempt that but not sure if it will work. If your going to do it just make sure you perform a backup before restoring to 3.1.2 and jailbreaking for that matter

I'm actually on Rogers (in Canada). But yes, I unlocked and stayed on Rogers. So it seems to be an issue with unlocking and staying on your regular carrier... or it's just totally random.

I'll report back once I've restored and tested for a couple of days.

I just completed an upgrade to 3.1.2 from 3.0.1 and I had a "NO Service" issue BUT it was due to using APTBackup and having it backup ultrasn0w. I unistalled it from Cydia and my service issue was restored.

I have the same problem. I JB and unlocked my 3GS with Blackra1n. Every so often I see 'no service' and then all the bars come back. This is with ATT. Last weekend I had to restore to factory 3.1.2 and JB/unlock because the phone got stuck on the Apple logo. But even with the fresh reload I get service drops.

I ended up restoring sooner than I had planned (I was lazy and was putting it off) as my phone also got stuck on the Apple logo three days ago.

I did a restore, and after a couple of days without any problems, I jailbroke and all seems to be fine.

(I guess I'm no longer unlocked now, but have yet to verify this)

cause i jailbreak a friend's 3G phone and it works perfectly for him.
but when i did the same to mine, i can't use DISKAID properly (it's saying i need to jailbreak my phone -_-) and when i install themes from cydia, i need to restart the phone - so i have to do it all over again.

i am using some apps even fontswap BUT not themes

it is sad cause themes are the main reason why i jailbreak my iphone.

can you guys help me?and clear my mind bout this?

go to cydia and install afc2add. the way blackra1n jailbreaks, usb browsing of the root file system doesn't work until you fix a certain file, which afc2add does.

Sounds like you have a tethered jailbreak. You just have to plug your phone in to your computer when it is showing the connect to itunes screen, and run blackra1n. You will have to do that for every reboot or power on of the phone.

Guys, I have a similar problem as above, I have iphone 3G with JB and unlock using Blackra1n and BlackSnow. All my calls get dropped when the phone locks. When I wake my phone up I see missed calls listed. When the phone is active it shows full signal, I think when it sleeps the signals drop out causing calls to drop. Does any one have a solution to this problem yet? I would really appreciate your time in responding this. Thanks.

I just used Blackrain on my new Iphone 3G and after neumerous tries. I get an error that I am not signed up for cellular data. Blackrain is on the phone with all of the options, but I am also not signed up for cellular data accoring to the error message. I am using a Cingular Sim card as opposed to a new ATT sim and I do have a cellular data plan.
