Default Downgrading but server is unavailable

Ever since I updated to 3.1.2 I've had battery draining problems and dropped calls. I restored it and now everytime I open safari I have to reset network settings to surf or even use maps. I followed the info from the sticky above but when I try to restore it says apple server is currently unavailable. It is looking for 127.0.0.1 when I ping gs.apple.com. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if the cydia/saurik server is down.

BTW, my ecid is on file.

It's because you're redirecting the call iTunes makes to your own computer (127.0.0.1), you should redirect it to Saurik's server instead. You can find his IP in the guide.

Open the file C\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows) or /etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
