    Default iPhone 3GS 3.1.2 + new iBoot

So I had some issues with my old 3G iPhone and decided to get a new one.

It seems I'm one of the (un)lucky ones to get one of the brand new 3GS's with the fixed bootloader (from what I understand at least - serials where the 4th and 5th digits are 41 or above).

From what I understand (and have experienced), I'm (and those in the same boat are) effectively screwed (currently).

    -Blackra1n RC2 offers a tethered JB
    -Blackra1n RC3 (BlackSn0w?) is also a tethered JB
-There's nothing on the horizon offering an untethered JB

Can anyone confirm this is correct? I see a lot of posts going around about this, but nothing specific about the future of the 3GS with new iBoot.

    Thanks!

You are correct on all three points. There nothing on the horizon, but who knows. GeoHot could wake up one morning and pull another rabbit out of his hat.

If you're out and about and have to reboot the phone for whatever reason you're screwed unless you have a pc nearby to re - JB it.

Pretty much what dazza said.. imagine being on holidays somewhere for a week, your iPhone rebooting for some random reason and not being able to get access to a PC with the JB software. No phone until you get back from holidays (or buy a new one while you're on holidays).

Not that I've been able to find, but I haven't looked that hard recently. Anyone else know anything?

    Default Greenpois0n

They might have a solution for this (as soon as the full version will be released). In my understanding you can at least boot into the "unjealbroken" part of the Phone as long as you do not have a PC to rejailbreak nearby

As a matter of fact you cant boot to the iphone cause its will be fixed on the recovery mode and u cant do anything unless you jailbreak it again or restore the FW.

From what I read and understand they would like to, or should I say will hold off releasing anything until June when the new devices are released. They don't want to take the chance Apple to patch the exploit in the new devices. This does actually make a lot of sense to me anyways. For those people that have a new iBoot it kind of sucks but it could be worse, the could not have a JB phone at all. Typically I maybe reboot mine once a week if that. Most of the time I'm at home or work when I do it anyways.

I don't think they have a patch for the new bootrom. The poll they put up was just about what people would prefer if there indeed was one.

Default Tethered Jailbreak and Non-Functioning Iphones

I use my Iphone to contact my delivery customers daily.
    I cannot have a non-functioning phone!
There is no access on the road, for a tethered jailbreak, much less time to do the jailbreak.

Although I realize there are reasons for not publishing a full jailbreak right now, some of us are frozen at 3.0 until the new version arrives, or worse, stuck with running home and re-tethering when problems occur. What this typically means is a less functional phone.

For people who need 100% functionality of their iphones the tethering option is out of the picture!

    3.0 doesn't work as well as 3.1.2
I can't use Itunes 9.0 or above so that doesn't work as well.
My Iphone 3GS had some problems with reception so I had to wipe it and return it to Apple. Luckily, it came with firmware 04.26.08 so I was able to jailbreak it with redsn0w.

From what geohot stated 3 days ago i think he might be on to something ? quote: "so first people complain about the lack of an unlock, im wondering if i fix tethered what would people are going to complain about next"

I think he might have something up his sleeve and crossing my fingers for you guys .

he also stated he has 2 more holes in the heap flow which means jailbreak for the future if apple dont find them first

I have the old bootroom, so maybe I don't see it as the ones with new one, but I really don't see it as that big of a problem.

There are several solutions. The most convenient one would be just to have a laptop with you when you're on the road. That would solve any problem you could have.

Another would simply be to have your cable and a USB-stick with blackra1n on it. All you then need is to be near a computer, and those are everywhere. You could even go up to any computer store and go in and use one of the computers they have on show, plug in the phone and USB and run blackra1n.

And as a final note, how many times has your phone crashed when you weren't installing something or messing around with configuration of various apps/mods? For me, it's a grand total of zero.

It seems you can't "just plug a usb stick with blackra1n on it into any old computer"
It looks like Itunes has to be on the computer.
I tried it at work( same setup as my home box sans itunes)
and blackra1n just crashes. i added the missing .dll file , but still no good.

Nope, Redsn0w 0.92 does not require iTunes.

As always read the posts in MMI and the DevTeam's blog page about Apple's newly released firmware 3.1.3. Do not restore firmware 3.1.3 if you want to preserve your unlock ability and wait until the DevTeam releases updated tools (PwnageTool & redsn0w) to jailbreak 3.1.3. It may be some time, since Apple has updated the baseband.

Apple may have stopped signing firmware 3.1.2, which means if you have an iPhone 3GS or ipt3 you will not be able restore firmware 3.1.2 if something goes wrong.

Firmware 3.1.3 is very minor. Most people are advising that it is not worth updating (restoring) to.

    Default lost my wifi

    my 3gs suddenly lost wifi.
i can "see" wireless networks but only with wifiget app.
    but my iphone wont connect.
is there a way to add the apparantly corrupted files back to my phone without doing a complete restore?
i'm hesitating on restoring because i'm afraid that fw 3.1.3 will get installed and i'll lose my jb and unlock( i'm on tmobile)
since i lost my wifi, my battery has been draining very quickly, and i get feedback through my desk phone and my computer speakers like the phone is constantly trying to connect to the cell network. but phone service is fine.

You should be able to shift/restore to 3.1.2 and then rejailbreak with blackra1n and unlock again as you are on a 3G phone. I don't think apple is making those firmwares be signed. Can anyone confirm?
