Use a mac. If you don't have one. Find a friend with one, and problem solved.

thatys fine but if the 3gs is on 3.1 Out of The Box, the JB wont work at this time

As far as I know that's right, but I have been hearing I may still work. I don't think it will.

Although it probably won't work, I might try anyways. I am getting ready to deploy overseas with the military (8th time in 9yrs) and bought the IPhone to use a sim over there not knowing at the time it was OTB at 3.1. Now I am stuck. Thankfully I am still within my 30day window to return it to ATT. Not sure what I am going to do right now

But jailbreak and unlock are two different things right? I mean there is no unlock for the new baseband yet so even if you jb you won't be able to call with it overseas.

Yes they are different. There could be an unlock later, but as of right now it is unlikely

Well Blackra1n is the better bet atm. Since Geohot said eta 2 days and that was 2 days ago, thinks he just need a day more or two. About GP, he said that would probably take WEEKS and Chronic didn't say otherwise so
. Bet on Geohot for now ^^.
Though I hope someone comes figures out a unlock though. My phone is Japanese with a Japanese carrier (which I seriously have no clue which one it is either) and I live in Vietnam so I let Apple screw me up big time.
