itunes 8.1.1.10
Hey guys, i don't know if this might be useful for anybody but, today i start trying to do a restore to my 3g[s] with diferent itunes and when i got to the 8.1.1 version it actualy let me start the restore since aparently this version of itunes don't verify the ecid with apple server, and I assumed that because at the time i was runing my "own server" using tinytss and itunes didn't even try to contact apple servers. So i start the restore with fw 3.0.1 but, almost at the half of the proces crashes, leaving me with an uknown error (10), and the same happend when i tried 3.0. I hope this have been useful in any kind of way. imma keep trying to fix this, if anybody get to do this first, please let me know what i have to do, to either fix this or bypass it, if theres is any possibility of doing it.
PS. Excuse my english

i tried this a week ago . didnt work for me either. most likely Apple is not allowing that version to work anymore or something. worked just the way you said and ended with error 10.
which is probably why i only have 2 icons on my homescreen

The hardware in the phone requires the signature to accept the firmware install. If there is no signature returned by apple, saurik, or tinytss (depending on your setup) it won't work.

Yeah, the lack of a signature.
TinyTSS works by having itunes request to apple re-routed to it, yes. But it has to have the correct signature for the firmware version being restored (00.shsh that was generated by umbrella) in order for it to serve a response to itunes. If the signature is not there, or is not the right signature for the version of firmware being installed, the process will fail. Hell, TinyTSS has to verify for itself it has signatures to serve before it will even start running on port 80.
It makes no difference which method you use to restore. If the phone doesn't get those signatures telling it it's ok to accept that firmware, the restore ain't happening. It's pretty simple, really.

the neat thing about 8.1.1 or whatever is that it actually does start the recovery process, whereas all current versions throw a 300X error at you immediately. this is probably why my home screen only has 2 icons. the firmware only partially loads on your phone, then gets cut off.
if we could get it to NOT verify the installation it might actually work, but i wont hold my breath
